This is currently making the rounds on the major news outlets and I thought it was a perfect thing to share with my fellow Anglophiles. In a major publicitiy stunt, the state of Queensland has opened up a job for anyone in the world to compete for.

How would you like to live on a tropical island off the coast of Australia for 6 months, laze around in the sun, blog about your experience, do the odd job and make $100k for your troubles?

Queensland is offering the ‘Best Job in the World’ up for grabs to anyone who would fancy spending their days on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. Did I mention you can live rent free in a 3 bedroom house with a pool and that they’ll fly you from wherever you live? The only catch is you have to be the ‘caretaker’ of the island, blog about your experiences and take photos.

My wife and I are defiantely going to apply! It’s the opportunity of a lifetime! I’m sure they’ll get millions of applicants. This is the perfect ‘job’ for an Anglophile!

Interested applicants have until February 22nd to submit a 60 second video explaining why they should get the job. In May, the 11 people who get shortlisted for the job will be flown to Hamilton Island for a final selection process. If you get the job, you will need to report for duty on July 1, 2009.

This is the promotional video put our by Tourism Queensland:

Check out this video from Sky News about the Job (something is wrong with the sound):

You can apply online now at the official website. Though, the site has gone down due to the publicity. I plan to apply once the publicity has died down.
