This came across the contact form on the site this past week. British Airways and the Daily Telegraph are sponsoring the Best of British awards and are asking the British expatriate community to nominate their favorite things about Britain.
From the Telegraph:
The Daily Telegraph has teamed up with British Airways to launch the Best of British awards, an appeal to all British expatriates to nominate the restaurants, clubs and bars that they feel best represent Britain abroad.
There are six categories of award aimed at the 5.5 million British-born people currently living abroad, who are encouraged to make nominations of their own or vote for businesses that have already been nominated. They will also be able to submit comments explaining why their chosen place is the best of its kind, and to upload relevant photographs or videos.
The categories are: Best British Shop; Best British Restaurant; Best British Pub/Bar; Best British Social Club; Best British Business Club and Best British Sporting Club.
The winners will be identified by taking into account the online voting totals, the voters’ comments, and the opinions of a panel of judges from The Daily Telegraph.
Anyone who nominates or votes will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to the awards ceremony in London on April 22, 2010.The winning establishments will be used to compile an annual ranking of the world’s top British establishments, to be published in the Travel section of The Daily Telegraph, in The Telegraph (our weekly world edition drawing on both the daily and Sunday papers and our website) and online.
Nominations and voting will close on January 15, 2010. Seetelegraph.co.uk/expat to enter.
I may not be an Expat, but I’m certainly going to nominate my favorite things about Britain and take the chance to enter the contest. Who knows – maybe I’ll win the contest and make it to Blighty in April!
What are your favorite things about Great Britain? Let us know in the comments!
