Brit Knits: Whovian Mittens – Doctor Who Gloves

If you are going to travel around in Doctor Who’s Blue Phone Box, you should probably be prepared for just about anything, that would include packing some mittens with you incase you get cold. I know just the mitten’s to pack too, Paula’s Whovian Mittens!

Here is what Paula had to say about her mittens:

I enjoy knitting and British television, Doctor Who in particular. I had a lot of yarn left over after making a version of the Fourth Doctor’s scarf. I used some of it to make an earflap hat and these mittens.

When I asked Paula how she started knitting, she replied, “I’ve been knitting since I was a child.  My mother taught me.” I think it is clear to say that her mother did a wonderful job teaching Paula because these mittens are truly a work of art.

The idea for the mittens just popped into my head one day.  I thought it would be fun to have mittens striped in the same color as The Scarf.  I thought it would be even more fun to put some Whovian images in the stripes.  I put the fish on top to represent the fish from last year’s Christmas special.  A friend made her mittens with a question mark on top.  It’s a salute to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors.

I’m playing a game on the needlework site Ravelry called Nerd Wars. We join together in teams and knit and crochet things that relate to our team. I’ve done things ranging from a tiny knit K-9 to a hat for young Amelia Pond.

If you would like to make a pair for yourself, you can find the pattern here on Ravelry for free. However, you will need to join the site in order to download the free pattern. Ravelry is free to join.
