Maltesers Candy
It was just a dash into a corner store to get a snack as one will do when on a trip. The bright red package caught my eye and I’d long been a fan of malted milk balls at home in the States. It only took one taste of Maltesers, however, for me to develop an addiction.
As I’ve often found, the level of product quality is far superior in the U.K., even in the candy aisle. I had never had a malt ball that wasn’t covered in a waxy, cheap chocolate. This was creamy and delicious.
Needless to say that while at the duty free on my way home I noticed a huge bin of Maltesers. I filled the remaining space in my knapsack with them. A few months later I was online placing my order with an overseas importer and begging friends and family on trips to London and Ireland to please, please get me more, like some depraved crack addict.
Fast forward to many months later when I wandered into a corner store here in my own, little corner or Boston and found my little, red-pack treasures. No more importing needed! Now I’ve noticed that they are found in the international aisle of just about every grocery store here, making me one, happy, candy-eating, Maltesers-munching Anglophile.

Anglotopia was founded by Jonathan and Jackie Thomas for people who love Britain - whether it's British TV, Culture, History or Travel - we cover it all. Anglotopia was started to get us back to the UK for a trip and it did that in 2009. Now, the goal is for Anglotopia to make our dream of living in the UK a reality.
Maltesers are my favorite British candy! Soooo good, and I agree the chocolate coating is far superior to the stuff they put on Whoppers in the States!
Yes, thanks Lisa. I love the discoveries.
Oh wow. I am jealous. I havent seen them in regular Los Angeles stores – I have to go to my local British shop. Still, I should be grateful I have that!
Speaking of candy, I just discovered that Shaw’s supermarkets here on the East coast carry Wine Gums. I am thrilled, because they are delish!
Wine gums? Really? Cool!
