One of the things I’m looking forward to the most on our trip to London in November is that it will be late enough to catch the beginning of the Christmas season in London. It’s something I’ve never experienced before and I think it will be rather magical.

Well, I found out yesterday that it will be more magical than I could have imagined.

There is Yet Another Remake of A Christmas Carol coming out and while I normally wouldn’t care since there are so many good ones already (like the Muppet Version) – this one is making be pause to take note.

The West End in London is going to be take over by the film’s premiere on November 3rd, which means London will be decked out for Christmas well before I get there on November 18th.

Some highlights to look forward to as Disney seeks to promote the crap out of their holiday tentpole movie:

— Regent Street, Oxford Street and The City of London will each be decked out with decor, live entertainers and holiday spirit–all themed to “Disney’s A Christmas Carol.”

— Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Bob Hoskins and director Robert Zemeckis will take part in the celebration.

— Leicester Square will be bursting with its own holiday spirit,
complete with Christmas carolers in period costumes, falling snow, live entertainment and several giant screens, allowing onlookers to witness each switch-on as it happens.

— The World Premiere will take place simultaneously in three theaters in Leicester Square: Odeon Leicester Square, Empire and Odeon West End, welcoming an audience of more than 4,000.

— Tickets to the World Premiere will be on sale Sept. 14 a www.londonschristmascarol.com.

— The World Premiere is in support of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children; Dickens was a founding patron of the facility. As part of its continued efforts on behalf of the hospital, The Walt Disney Company will be making a donation.

— The Regent Street Christmas lights were first launched in 1954.

— This year will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Oxford Street
Christmas Lights.

Sounds like a blast and I can’t wait to see the lights on display when I get there!

Here’s the latest trailer for the film in case you’re interested:

Gah, this is going to be wonderful! I too have been looking forward to an English Christmas season, and this is going to be great. Thanks for the head’s up! (And love the Muppet Christmas Carol shout-out… that’s my favorite Christmas movie!)
