This is part in an ongoing series where I will feature some of my Photography of London and England up until we leave for our trip in November. I’m an avid amateur photographer and love sharing my photos. If you’d like to see all the pictures in this series check out the gallery here.
This first picture goes back to the beginning – this is the first picture I ever took in London on my first trip with my mother in June 2001. It’s so old, it was taken on film before I went to digital!
They may just be rooftops, but after arriving on a plane and being exhausted – these rooftops summed up what London was going to be for me. The roofs are right out of a Victorian period drama. This was the view from our hotel room window – which to some may seem lame – but to someone on their first trip to London – it was magical and I’ll never forget it.
If you’ve been to England, what’s your first memory of England?

Anglotopia was founded by Jonathan and Jackie Thomas for people who love Britain - whether it's British TV, Culture, History or Travel - we cover it all. Anglotopia was started to get us back to the UK for a trip and it did that in 2009. Now, the goal is for Anglotopia to make our dreams of traveling to the UK whenever we want a reality.
Walking thru Gatwick and not being able to locate the person who was supposed to meet me. There should have been a bus to take me to the base or someone to take me there but neither materialized. I was stranded, so I had to hire a taxi to take me 60 miles north. Good think I had cash on me. If I remember right, it cost me about sixty quid, but that was 20 years ago.
Then that was an expensive cab fare! Thanks for sharing.
My first trip was barely half a year ago – so I definitely remember the butterflies (of excitement!) in my stomach as I rode from Heathrow to my hotel. It was 10 pm, but I was just taking it all in as best I could – anything ‘different’ from the US. The Tescos and curry take-aways, the driving on the left side of the road, the red and blue underground signs, the Cockney accent of my driver. It was wonderful! And I was delighted to find vegetarian “chicken” pasties at a Sainsbury’s, which was mercifully still open at 11 pm near Victoria station!
Thanks so much for sharing!
