I work in Web Development, so I was excited to see that the Queen launched a new website for herself this week. I love the idea of the Queen having her own virtual realm.
The site features a lot more content, videos and history information pages about the monarchy. It’s an Anglophile’s dream! The stodgy old Monarchy is taking advantage of new social media venues to connect with the people. The Queen now even has her own YouTube channel!
The site has lot of news so that you can keep up with what the Queen and other members of the Royal Family are up to. There’s even an interactive map that will show you any Royal Events coming up in your area.
The Queen had the creator of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee on hond to help her launch the new website. The design is nice and clean, which is good to see.
The only thing I wish was that there was a blog element and maybe even a Twitter account. I don’t expect the Queen to keep a blog and tweet all day, but it would be nice to have someone doing that on her behalf (I volunteer!).
Also, according to the Guardian, her new site was not designed well with Search Engine Optimization in mind. I’m work in SEO, so I have a special interest in this. There are some pretty basic SEO tactics missing from her site.
However, she is the Queen, people will find her website no matter what so SEO really isn’t that important.

Anglotopia was founded by Jonathan and Jackie Thomas for people who love Britain - whether it's British TV, Culture, History or Travel - we cover it all. Anglotopia was started to get us back to the UK for a trip and it did that in 2009. Now, the goal is for Anglotopia to make our dreams of traveling to the UK whenever we want a reality.
