The Times has travelled the length and breadth of Britain to find the best chippies in all of the United Kingdom and compiled a helpful list.
Here’s their choice for #1
Linford’s Traditional Fish & Chips, Market Deeping, Peterborough, Eastern England
With a 36-year family history in the fish and chips business it’s no surprise that Paul Linford has featured in the competition on several occasions.
Serving mainly cod (steamed, floured or battered), the shop prides itself on its high level of customer service and quality products. When available from sustainable sources, Paul also serves haddock, plaice, lemon sole and huss.
A very traditional fish and chip shop, the building dates back to 1771 and was a former stables and coach house, before it became a counting house and then latterly a butcher’s.

As for my own personal choice – it would have to be Stoby’s Fish and Chips in Salisbury. However, I have not travelled very much in the rest of the UK. But they certainly had the best I’ve ever had!

Anglotopia was founded by Jonathan and Jackie Thomas for people who love Britain - whether it's British TV, Culture, History or Travel - we cover it all. Anglotopia was started to get us back to the UK for a trip and it did that in 2009. Now, the goal is for Anglotopia to make our dreams of traveling to the UK whenever we want a reality.
Go on Whitby! Glad to see a town just down the coast on that list. Hartlepool and Whitby are closely linked as St. Hilda founded Whitby Abbey around the same time she established an Abbey here in Hartlepool in the seventh century. I’ve been to Whitby and the scenery there is breathtaking, can’t imagine a better place to eat fish & chips! Next time I go in I will have to pop in there and sample their top ten rated fish & ships.
Well said Jonathan. I can’t imagine how the Times missed Stoby’s
