Reign 2

Reign, the new costume drama from the American network The CW, follows a young Mary, Queen of Scots in 1557 France and her engagement to Prince Francis the son of the French King. The marriage is an alliance between Scotland and France which Mary takes very seriously. However Francis is not ready to settle down as he has his own relationships going in the French court. Mary can only trust her four ladies in waiting, and she is determined to do what is best for Scotland. With her life in turmoil Francis’ dashing half-brother Bash arrives on the scene and forms an instant connection with the queen. Can no one do a Scottish accent in this show? Pure tosh, unauthentic in all aspects, from the accents (English/barely disguised American) to the clothes and the dialogue.

We don’t watch the CW, but will give this a chance. We’re afraid it will be aimed at a young audience and won’t be original. Hopefully, it’s not all sexual and comtemporized as most of the shows on the CE. No vampires, please!

I’ll wait for the one that will come out in two years starring Saoirse Ronan and written by Michael Hirst, the guy responsible for “The Tudors”!
