I’m looking forward to seeing Small Island – if you’re curious as to what it’s about – check out this description:
AN epic love story about the determined pursuit of dreams in the face of seemingly insurmountable barriers has been adapted for the BBC.
The two-part programme is based on Andrea Levy’s enchanting and moving multi-award winning novel, Small Island.
It is set against the backdrop of the Second World War and follows the interlocking lives of Queenie (Ruth Wilson / Jane Eyre), her Jamaican lodger, Gilbert (David Oyelowo / The Last King of Scotland), his wife Hortense (Naomie Harris / Pirates of the Caribbean), and Queenie’s husband Bernard (Benedict Cumberbatch / Started for Ten).
From the hustle of life in 1940s Jamaica through to the devastation of London in the Blitz, the programme touches on prejudice, war and relationships.
Here’s an excellent preview clip from Small Island that has the wonderful music in it:
Small Island airs in two parts on BBC 1 starting this Sunday, December 6th.
