
Whitechapel 1889, a notorious serial killer known as Jack the Ripper has created terror in London’s gritty East End. The strange murders have ceased yet there’s still an underbelly of fear and trauma.
Enter the H Division known as the police precinct from hell. Led by Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen) the police try to bring order back to the streets. A progressive copper, Reid has new ideas on crime solving that cause him to ultimately butt heads with his fellow officers.
The eight part drama created by Richard Warlow (Mistresses, Waking the Dead) to air on BBC One and BBC America takes the drama to the streets of Victorian London where violence and pornography are prevalent.
Executive producer Greg Brenman said , “We are so excited about Ripper Street and believe that Richard Warlow is creating a period show that respects its moment in history whilst also achieving a thoroughly modern, entertaining and visceral piece of entertainment.”
