A month ago, I reported that the new album by My Bloody Valentine was near the end of its completion after years of production; days later, it was announced as finished. In a recent gig, they even announced a release date for the album… that is, it’s going to be released sometime in the next couple of days.

At one point during the band’s show at Brixton nightclub Electric, their first gig since 2009, and a warm-up concert for their upcoming tour of Japan, Australia, and Britain, Kevin Shields said that their new album, as of yet untitled, “might be out in two or three days”. In commemoration of this announcement, the band played their first new song in two decades, a song which, according to a set list found on the mixing board, is called “Rough Song.”

The set List:

‘Rough Song’
‘I Only Said’
‘When You Sleep’
‘You Never Should’
‘Honey Power’
‘Cigarette In Your Bed’
‘Come In Alone’
‘Only Shallow’
‘Thorn’
‘Nothing Much To Lose’
‘To Here Knows When’
‘Slow’
‘Soon’
‘Feed Me With Your Kiss’
‘You Made Me Realise’

In November, Kevin Shields claimed that the band’s new album would be released on his website before the end of 2012. However, it has yet to be released; presumably, this is Speaking to NME at the beginning of November, frontman Kevin Shields claimed that the band’s new album would be released on his website before the end of the year, although it has yet to see the light of day.

The dates of My Bloody Valentine’s UK tour so far:
Birmingham O2 Academy (March 8) [newly added]
Glasgow Barrowlands (March 9)
Manchester Apollo (10)
London Hammersmith Apollo (12, 13)

For the Asian and Australian dates on the tour, go here.

I’ll advise fans to seek out recordings of “Rough Song,” but it’s only fair to warn you that copies of the song will be hard to find; for now, MBV have successfully kept the song off Youtube.

About Derek

I was named after not one, but two, different Shakespearean actors (Derek Jacobi and Laurence Olivier.) I am a lifelong resident of Chicago. I learned to read at the age of 18 months and credit my love of literature, film, and music with keeping me somewhat sane throughout school. When not writing about music, I like going to plays, and going to Columbia College Chicago where I am a fiction writing student.
