Anglophile Movie Preview

I love movies and I love British Movies even more. There’s a lot to look forward to in the next few months for Anglohpiles. So much that I thought it a good time to make a list with all the relevant information so Anglphiles out there don’t miss one!

Most of the movies are coming out this fall while the rest are coming out before next spring. Some don’t have release dates or trailers right now, I’ll monitor things and post the information as it comes in. Bookmark this page!

The Duchess

Synopsis: The latest costume drama starring Keira Knightly playing the Duchess of Devonshire. She’s a controversial historicial figure that was reviled for her extravagent behavior and policitical activies during the 18th century. Lush set peices and fine pedigreed acting are sure to make a fun movie.

Synopsis: A look at a few chapters in the life of Poppy, a cheery, colorful, North London schoolteacher whose optimism tends to exasperate those around her. From the team that brought you Closer a couple years ago.

Rocknrolla

Synopsis: In London, a real-estate scam puts millions of pounds up for grabs, naturally attraction the attention of some of the city’s scrappiest tough guys (Butler, Elba) its more established underworld players (Wilkinson), and others — all of whom are looking to get rich quick. From the director Guy Ritche, who brought us Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.

Quantum of Solace

Synopsis: The latest adventures of Daniel Craig as James Bond. Sure to be the biggest hit of the fall. For the first time, this will be a direct sequel to the other movies, so there will be lots of plot threads contining from the last movie.

Synopsis: Baz Luhrman and Nichole Kidman return to their homeland, Australia, is this period peice during World War II about a cattle ranch outpost the proper English woman who inherits it.

Slumdog Millionaire

Synopsis: The story of how impoverished Indian teen Jamal Malik (Patel) became a contestant on the Hindi version of “Who Wants to be A Millionaire?” — an endeavor made without prize money in mind, rather, an effort to prove his love for his friend Latika (Pinto), who is an ardent fan of the show. Directed by Danny Boyle who brought us hits like Trainspotting and 28 Days Later.

Yes Man

Synopsis: Not really directly an Anglophile movie. But this new Jim Carrey comedy, where he has to say yes to everything, was originally a British book by Daniel Wallace.

Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging

Synopsis: The story centers on a 14-year-old British girl who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of being a teenager, including the things she learns about kissing. From the director of the hit Bend it Like Beckham.

Dean Spanley

Is There Anybody There?

Synopsis: Set in 1980s seaside England, this is the story of Edward, an unusual ten year old boy growing up in an old people’s home run by his parents.
