Bear Grylls Back on Discovery for ‘Ultimate Survivors’

Bear Grylls

It has just been announced that renowned British adventurer Bear Grylls will be teaming up once again with the Discovery Channel  for the new reality series Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors.

The former Man vs Wild host was involved in a contractual dispute with Discovery Communications last year – which led to the termination of the show after six seasons. Apparently the working relationship has been rehabilitated, to the benefit of both the star and the network. The six-part miniseries will chronicle the incredible true stories of people who survived extreme situations, with survivor interviews and archival footage accompanying their astounding tales. Grylls will also place himself in situations similar to the personal stories in order to educate viewers about optimal survival tactics. The show will air internationally – on 26 different Discovery Networks all over the globe.

In a press release, Grylls and a rep from Discovery shared their thoughts on the new project:

“I am super excited to be working with Discovery again – the channel where the Man Vs Wild journey began,” said Grylls in a statement. “Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors, and any future endeavors, will be intense—but that’s where the fun is! Man Vs. Wild took me to some of the toughest climates and terrains out there, and this new series is an exciting evolution of that. The aim is to follow incredible real-life survival stories and demonstrate dynamic life-saving know-how along the way.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Bear back to the Discovery fold,” said Luis Silberwasser, chief content officer and executive VP at Discovery Networks International. “He is a true game-changer in the survival genre, integral in shaping it into the programming powerhouse that it is today. We are now poised to push the limits even further for our international audience.”
No date has been announced for the premiere of Ultimate Survivors, though there is much buzz about another Bear Grylls project. Casting calls – for an NBC show featuring Grylls with the working title Get Out Alive – began last fall. According to NBC.com, the search for “confident and competitive duos” spanned nine cities. The tentative air date for that show is this coming summer.
