Having modelled for such British institutions such as Burberry and Marks & Spencer, a burgeoning film career, LA residence and a blockbuster movie star boyfriend – the quintessentially named Rosie Huntington-Whiteley not only looks to be the face of 2012, but the face of a new glamorous breed of British girl. Famously proud of her British identity, she recently said: “I miss Britain. I miss the culture, the TV, the radio, the pubs, the comedy, the food, the beautiful countryside. I miss Marks & Spencer – no, honestly, I really do.”
Born and raised on a Devon farm, Rosie makes British glamour look absolutely effortless, even with a full-to-the-brim stateside diary. Having read and seen a great deal of work from her, I was inspired to write a blog post on the newest British bombshell to hit the great American shores. So what is beneath the veneer of this Yankee friendly English rose and can it be achieved in whatever small way possible? Let’s take a look.
The Hair
As with any budding supermodel, hair is a signature part of her look. Her hair is neither poker straight or particularly curly but rather appears as perfect bed hair, which of course takes a lot longer to get right than it looks. When my friends ask me how to attain this look, I say simply blow-dry your hair and give it a tease with some hairspray. Try not to weigh it down with too much product though. Her hair appears to be a naturally brunette colour but it often has blonde highlights which can be achieved by using something like Goldwell Colorance hair colour.
The Make-Up
Describing herself as a typical West Country girl, Rosie has created this astonishing Cinderella story out of her former appearance self-described as “gangly”. Rosie is a huge advocate of being snapped looking less than picture perfect and perhaps that is part of her brand, as opposed to the glamazon South Americans. I try to make my lips look full and pouty by dotting a small amount of concealer on the lower lip and then wearing a simple gloss or even just Vaseline. A natural illuminator and mineral foundation will help create an appearance of glowing skin that hasn’t seen the LA sunshine. Rosie has naturally feline-like eyes but if you don’t have this look you can achieve it by using a very neutral shade of base eye shadow and using kohl on the bottom and top of your eyes. She also keeps her eyebrows full, thick and well groomed so perhaps treat yourself to a salon visit.
The Body
While remaining slim, Rosie is by no means stick thin; she is an ambassador of the healthy look without looking emaciated and showcases a toned body. As well as keeping a nutritious diet, she is said to very keen on regular exercise. A toned body such as hers can be achieved by ensuring you do a combination of anaerobic exercise alongside Pilates and yoga. By her own admission, doing a lot of exercise allows her to eat as much she wants without restriction.
The Sartorial Style
Being a brand spokesmodel for Marks & Spencer has allowed her to retain a classically British fashion but with a California twist if need be. She has been photographed in her downtime wearing a variety of looks from the classic LBD, jeans and sweater combination, country casuals and weekend rock chick looks. The lesson attained from her style is to experiment with your look but retain your roots.
