Sir Winston Churchill Born on this Date

Sir Winston Spencer Churchill was born on this day in 1874. The picture above is of the room at Blenheim Palace in which he was born. We had the chance to visit Blenheim Palace last year and it’s well worth a visit. In one day, you can see the room where we has born and also visit nearby Bladon where he is buried in the Churchill family plot. The whole estate is steeped in history and we can’t wait to go back. What’s your favorite Churchill quote? Post it in the comments!

Mine is: “I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.”

‘It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations.’

Humor aside, here’s a fun fact for the day – I once had a few hours sleep in Churchill’s bedroom.

On seeing Stafford Cripps (a very egoistical Christian politician) passing by, Churchill is said to have remarked “there, but for the grace of God, goes God”. Cruel maybe, but a neat paraphrase of the earlier saying “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”
