BA Strike Latest Information

Editor’s Note: Since there is a lot of misinformation out there about the upcoming British Airways strike, I’ve invited Melissa from British Airways to keep us updated on the official information coming from British Airways. I met Melissa through the Face to Face program last year and consider her to be a very trusted resource within BA.

Unite, the trade union that represents the majority of British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has announced its intention to take strike action on the following dates:

20, 21 and 22 March 2010

27, 28, 29 and 30 March 2010

All of our flights are continuing to operate as normal up until the first day of the strike.

We have now announced the schedule for the first set of strike dates, 20, 21 and 22 March.

All flights to and from London City and all longhaul flights to and from London Gatwick will continue to operate normally throughout any strike period and any changes to bookings on these flights are subject to the original fare rules.

Not all of our flights will be cancelled due to the strike action between 20 and 22 March 2010.

If your flight is operating it will either:

> be operating normally

> be operating with a different level of onboard service

> be operating by a charter company flying on behalf of British Airways

Due to the complexity of our flying schedules it will take us a number of hours to update every booking that is affected. However, the Arrivals and Departures facility is now up to date with details of flights that have been cancelled and those that are operating with details of exactly how we intend to operate them. http://www.britishairways.com/rtad/travel/public/en_us

If your flight is operating or cancelled between 19 and 22 March you have the option of changing your booking.

The second period of strike action, 27 – 30 March will be updated once we confirm the schedule. We will announce these dates four to five days prior to the proposed strike date and will be able to advise then of any direct impact on flight plans.

We are very disappointed by Unite’s threat of what would be completely unnecessary industrial action and we remain available to talk with them at any time. We would like to reassure you that all of our flights are continuing to operate as normal at this time.

A strike will not ground British Airways. We have had nearly 6,000 volunteers, which includes nearly 1,000 who have trained as cabin crew and that number is growing.
