Editor’s Note: I’ve invited our new content partners over at Metrotwin to contribute a weekly post to Anglotopia with the coolest sights and sound of London for you all to read about. Welcome Metrotwin!
Although the weather for this weekend is (surprise surprise) predicted to be ‘drizzly’, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the glorious four day Easter weekend in London Town.
Boat Race
It’s the University Boat Race this weekend. Oxford and Cambridge Universities compete in an epic race down the River Thames from Putney Bridge to Chiswick, through the picturesque suburbs of South West London. Crowds gather all along the rivers edge to watch, cheer, and, in the case of areas like Richmond Hill and Fulham Palace, picnic. Whilst this year might be a bit of a damp squib in terms of al fresco dining, there are plenty of good riverside pubs, such as the City Barge , where you can catch the action from - if you turn up in good time!
Meat and Two Veg
It’s traditional to eat a roast dinner on Easter Sunday, but unless you actively enjoy spending your entire morning stressing over a lump of meat and your entire afternoon scrubbing the greases of said lump of meat off a huge pile of crockery, I suggest you check out one of London’s many gastro-pubs. The Cow in Westbourne Park does a fantastic Sunday set menu, while The Royal Oak in East London has won awards for their roasts. If you like your lamb with a side of Michelin Star you should check out The Harwood Arms in Fulham, and I would recommend The Eagle in Hoxton on the strength of their Yorkshire Puddings alone!
Spherical Chocolate
As any child (or sweet toothed adult!) will tell you, you can’t let this weekend go by without consuming some sort of egg in chocolate form. Bizarrely, the supermarkets seems to have entered into a bit of an egg war this year with ridiculously cheap mass produced eggs, but if you want something a bit different, Liberty’s have an amazing range of chocolate rabbits, lambs and (bizarrely) skulls, while Hotel Chocolat have a special range of extra thick chocolate eggs, including a particularly cute one filled with praline smiley faces!
Baby Animals
What better way to celebrate Easter’s message of rebirth than by visiting some baby animals? London has lots of inner city farms where you can pet/feed/point at farmyard animals – you might have to check opening hours over the Easter weekend, but it’s a great day out idea for those with kids, and even for those without, as most include some sort of organic cafe/shop on their premises!

Anglotopia was founded by Jonathan and Jackie Thomas for people who love Britain - whether it's British TV, Culture, History or Travel - we cover it all. Anglotopia was started to get us back to the UK for a trip and it did that in 2009. Now, the goal is for Anglotopia to make our dreams of traveling to the UK whenever we want a reality.
