Cool Site Alert: I Love Your Accent – Transatlantic Dating Site

This came across the inbox a few days ago and is worth mentioning. For those love forlorn Anglophiles out there who want to meet a significant other with a British accent – this site is for you. I Love Your Accent is a new dating site for transalantic lovers.

It’s pretty straightforward as far as a dating site goes – not that I would know – with plenty of pictures and user profiles and a way to connect with men and woman across the pond. The site is also useful the other way around for Brits looking for Americans.

Honestly, though, I can’t give the site a proper test and I’m happily married but it looks pretty feature rich.

The only bit I don’t like are the creepy video heads in the header of the site that say ‘I love your accent’ every time a page loads. Makes the site load slow and it’s just… creepy and annoying, especially if you try to browse the site.

This is a great idea for a site and I wish them the best of luck.

I should also add that the easiest way to get a visa to live and work in Britain is to marry a Brit. Just sayin’.

Check us Out at Unlabelled Britain: Cool UK Festivals @visitbritain

I’ve written another guest post over at Visit Britain’s blog Unlabelled Britain, this time all about the coolest UK Festivals coming up this year.

From the post:

Hay-on-Wye is an interesting place in itself – it’s literally a village completely made up of bookstores. Antique books, collectible books, detective books, sci-fi books – Hay-on-Wye has it all thanks to the eccentric bookstore owner in town, Richard Booth. Hay-on-Wye has other 30 bookshops – including fields of books under tarps.

Having become a center for Bibliophiles in Britain, the town has now become home to the annual Guardian Hay Festival of Literature & Arts – often called the Woodstock of the mind which brings in the biggest stars of the literary world.

This year’s Hay Festival will be held from May 27th to June 6th.   More Information on the Hay Festival Website.

Anglophile Blogs: The Tudor Tutor

Occasionally I like to highlight fellow Anglophile blogs that are worth a mention and this one certainly is. It’s called the Tudor Tutor and it’s dedicated to everything Tudor – by far one of the most fascinating eras of English history.

It’s interesting, irreverent and provides a modern twist on something many of us Anglophiles know very well.

Here’s a example of a recent post:

A Quickie with Catherine Howard

How does Henry VIII’s fifth wife fit in among the rest? Catherine Howard has the reputation of having been a young and pretty hussy, and dumb as a box of rocks. But he was smitten with her right away, the old scamp, and married her in July of 1540.

There were loads of activities that summer to celebrate the new girl on the block (who seemed to have already been around the block a few times, but that’s another quickie). Every day she was lavished with sumptuous dresses and jewelry, and spent lots of time dancing around. Paris Hilton for the 16th century, if you will.

Cool New London Resource – LDN.in from @LDN on Twitter

One of my favorite people I follow on Twitter are the folks behind the LDN handle – they always post interesting links related to London for tourists and locals alike.

They also developed an interesting iPhone app that we’ve reviewed a while back as well called London Audio Guide – an audio tour guide of London. Check it out here: London Audio Guide

Now they’ve taken their Londonphilia a step further and created LDN.in – an aggregator of really cool London links that they come across.

Check out the really cool site here. I’m definitely going to add this to my daily websites!

Expat Resource: London Rent Guide – Guide to London Rental Rates

london-rents.jpeg

The Mayor of London has launched an fantastic new resource for those looking for somewhere to live in London: The London Rents Map.

It’s a great guide to current market rental rates for every neighborhood in London. You can look at rents on a map, search by specific area and property type.

This is an invaluable resource for someone looking for somewhere to live in London – it’s even fun to browse for wannabe expats like me who want to pick their dream London neighborhood.

They also have a handy guide on renting in London – terminology, what to expect, tenant’s rights, etc.

Check out the London Rents Guide here.
