Graham Norton to take over Jonathan Ross’ BBC1 time slot

The face of BBC on Friday night will continue to be a very familiar one, on both sides of the pond.

Graham Norton has been tapped to take over the BBC1 time slot currently held by “Friday Night With Jonathan Ross,” which ends its run on Friday.

“In all likelihood, when [Norton's] show returns later in the year it will play in the Friday night slot,” a BBC spokesperson told The Independent.

Ross was signed to front a new chatshow on ITV late next year after a very public falling out with the BBC over a phone call made by himself and Russell Brand on Wossy’s now-former Radio 2 show. Norton will also be taking over the time slot for that show.

Since the move of “The Graham Norton Show” is not expected to happen until October, “Would I Lie To You?” will premiere its fourth series next Friday night (ed: this means that David Mitchell will be on the radio and telly at least three times a week for awhile, which makes the writer very happy, but that’s probably for another column.) “Live In The Apollo” will also fill in until Norton’s move.

Since both Norton and Ross have been a big part of BBC America’s weekend primetime programming, this still means that they will have a slot to fill.

Interview With the Guys Behind World Football Daily – Coming Soon – World Cup Updates!

I’m happy to report that the fellows behind World Football Daily will be posting daily soccer (football) reports for the foreseeable future. They’ll also be providing us extensive coverage during the upcoming World Cup in South Africa. It’s going to be an exciting few months!

We took a few minutes to catch up with the hosts from www.worldfootballdaily.com, which is the only daily English language show exclusively dedicated to football anywhere in the world and is courted by players, managers, general managers and media personalities from the UK and USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, Africa and South America.

World Football Daily calls upon the very best journalists to help make the show the most thorough football experience covering football anywhere in the world. This is reflected in the numbers that the show routinely puts up in countries like Australia, Brazil, India, New Zealand, Canada, Germany and many of the big football nations throughout the world. They are also the only English daily show covering every aspect of the upcoming FIFA World Cup from South Africa, from the play on the pitch, to stories off the pitch.

World Football Daily reaches football fans worldwide that are looking for a deeper and more personal football experience on a daily basis. The show covers all on-field topics from the world’s major football leagues while finely balancing the 24/7 soap opera that is the world game as well as the business side of the game. This subscription based show has already broken new territory on delivering the finest broadcasted football product.

Steven Cohen and Kenny Hassan are both ex-pats and are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the game of football. They both grew up with an avid love for the game. Steven was born in London, England, and after completing school he moved to the US where he joined the army. Cohen started World Soccer Daily, in 2002 with his good friend, Nick Geber. Steven was a life-long Chelsea fan for more than forty years but has since moved to the grand ole team Neutral FC for personal reasons. Kenny was born in Glasgow, Scotland where he grew up supporting the blue side, Rangers FC. Kenny moved to Germany and later to the United States where he has been living the dream for 15 years.

When did you start World Fooball Daily?

World Football Daily started in August 2009 and was the natural progression of what we had built over the previous 7 years with World Soccer Daily which started in 2002.

How do people listen to your show?

People have a couple of options: they can listen live from our own site www.worldfootballdaily.com or they can subscribe to the podcast. Once someone has signed up for a subscription they will show 3 differents assets that they might want: the complete show, the video of the show or simply just the interviews we do. They will click either Itunes or Zune and they are away. Additionally we have a mobile application coming out this week.

Tell us how you both got started in the Football World?

Steven: I started (with a guy called Nick Geber) the original World Soocer Daily, which actually started out as World Soccer Weekly in 2002. I was ata crossroads in my career and rteally wanted to find something that i really wanted to do and so moved forward with creating the first soccer radio show in US history. We built the show up over the course of 7 years and switched from network to network until we settled on Sirius XM but we left there in Augsut 2009 and formed World Football Daily as a subscription based show and the rest as they say is the present.

Kenny: I actually was a listener to the show from the very, very early days trying to listen at the most obscure hours as an Ex-Pat that had found this show that kept me connected with the game back home and it filled a massive void in my days when I wanted/needed my football fix. To have an outlet that had some serious effort, input AND comedy from both Steven and Nick, that, ultimately, was the clincher for myself, as a natural progression I stayed on listening till they got the first gig on Sirius and the first t.v. show in that awful living room set on the Fox network on a Friday evening and from there on in I constantly and I mean, constantly, emailed Steven at the radio show with my analysis of how Michael Essien was playing for Chelsea after most games, then called in, and was known as ‘ Kenny from Long Beach’. Before long, Steven asked on air for some local fans to come in and try and guest host with him when he was flying solo and that as they say, was that. I did my days when asked and soon they turned into weeks and then the partnership grew from there on in.

3 plus years later and we are as popular as ever thanks to a fantastic and loyal following mixed with the best correspondent and mgr/player/guest line-up that any show on the football landscape offers and better than any on a daily basis, one of the keys to our continued success is the fact that we are the only daily English language based broadcast available covering the beautiful game.

Do you have a favorite team?

Steven: I have decided to withhold my support for any one team but I was an avid Chelsea fan for 43 years. I am now as neutral as I could be.

Kenny: Rangers F.C.
I’m a Glasgow boy and have followed that club since the very first day I knew what football was. 40 plus years now. More silverware than any other football club in any domestic league in any country. World record holders.

How will you be covering the world cup?

Well we will watching every game and we will be experiencing the tournament in the same way that our audience experiences which is to say from here in the US. We might be changing the time of the show so that we can do a full and proper show once all the games are concluded every day ut we have not decided on that quite yet.

Do you have a favorite to win Steven and Kenny?

Steven: Spain.

Kenny: Actually, as Scotland failed miserably again to qualify I turned my attention to Chile. Strange for a Scot to be this off the wall, but they play a 3-4-3 system, the ‘W-M’ they call it which is all about attack and for me I really admire the coach Marcelo Bielsa and players like Valdivia,Sanchez,Suazo and Gonzalez…..I know they wont win it, but I really think they will entertain and add to the drama that unfolds every 4 years in our game’s greatest event. If I was forced to bet a few quid, I’ll take Argentina, I’m sure they can do it.

World Football Daily have kindly agreed to give Anglotopia a daily football report, including for the world cup. Stay tuned for further World Cup Updates!

David Tennant Stars in Of Mice and Men Radio Dramatization

Even though I’m a straight dude, I’d listen to David Tennant read the phone book. This an excellent adaptation of the great work by Steinbeck. It’s quite strange hearing him speak in a American Southern Accent but entertaining nonetheless!

From the David Tennant Website:

David stars in a BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. He plays George Milton opposite Liam Brennan as Lennie Small in the story of two migrant workers in 1930s California whose dream of owning a place of their own is destroyed.

Steinbeck’s seminal novella has been adapted by writer and dramatist Donna Franceschild, who worked with David on BBC2 drama Takin’ Over the Asylum, in which he starred with Ken Stott in 1994
