Like it or not the Harry Potter movies are over, and actor Daniel Radcliffe – despite having enough in the bank to walk away forever – is trying to move onto the next stage of his career. He’s already performed on stage to some acclaim, but his next movie project was always going to be highly-anticipated, and doubtless the knives were out when it was announced he’d be donning sideburns for a Victorian horror story.

Radcliffe plays Arthur Kipps, a widow and single father following the death of his wife in childbirth. But money still has to be made, and his law firm boss sends him off on a last-chance assignment to sort out the will of Alice Drablow, the last resident of Eel Marsh House. As soon as he arrives in the small village nearby, things seem wrong. The locals don’t want him to stay, children are hurried indoors when he passes by, and only local landlord Daily (Hinds) offers the hand of friendship.

Eel Marsh House is on at island at the end of a causeway that gets cut off by the tide twice a day, and en route Arthur sees a cross in the boggy marshland. On arrival at the spooky, dusty house he gets to work exploring and working – but then he begins to hear noises upstairs, and then sees a mysterious Woman in Black in the grounds.

Soon Arthur learns that all the locals have lost children in unexplained accidents, and though Daily dismisses it all as superstition (despite his wife (McTeer) and her obsession with their own dead child), Arthur realizes that his own son’s imminent arrival could be a journey to death.

Establishing a frightening tone immediately (three small girls calmly jump from a building together), this is classic, haunted house, jump-out-of-your-seat stuff. There’s minimal dialogue and almost no music, with the sounds of creaking wood, footsteps and unexplained noises doing all the work instead of lots of blood, over-the-top CGI and an obvious soundtrack.

That may explain its short running time – it’s really only the last 10 minutes or so before there’s any real pace to the story – and as ever with horror movies it’s always hard to understand why people ignore warning signs and go into the cellar or out into the dark.

Adapted from the book by Susan Hill (and with a stage version that’s been running in London since 1989 – the second longest-running play ever next to Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” – this movie is from raised-from-the-dead British studio Hammer and, despite Radcliffe’s struggle to convey fear or surprise very well, solid performances, stunning scenery and tight direction make for a surprisingly good shocker. Hopefully “Harry” fans will give it a try!

What better way to ring in the new year than to marry the love of your life?

News has broken that David Tennant has married long time girlfriend (and mother of his child) Georgia Moffett tonight in a private ceremony amongst family and friends.

In a strange twist of irony, Georgia Moffett is the daughter of Peter Davison – also known as the Fifth Doctor!

Many congrats to them!

Happy New Year!

Daphne Alexander stars as Stella in ‘The Palace’, this wonderful film is being considered for a possible Academy Award nomination for 2012. We were able to catch her for a moment to find out how she identified with the character in this emotional role and how she feels about the film being under consideration for the 2012 Academy Awards for ‘Live Action Short’.

Thank you for taking time to talk to us, being that you reside in England and the director is from Australia – how did you get cast in ‘The Palace?’ DA: It was very serendipitous! The director Anthony Maras who is based in Australia happened to be in London for a few days and we met through common friends over a drink. I had no idea at the time that he was looking for a Cypriot actress for his forthcoming project. A few months later, he sent me the script, and the rest is history!

How difficult was it to film with a baby and children? DA: What did you do to make them feel comfortable with you? It was certainly challenging to film with a 3-month old, seeing as the poor little thing was uncomfortable, in strange surroundings and cried a lot – but we became friends in the end, and it slept in my arms. As for the elder kids, I adored them – they insisted on calling me “mum” throughout the shoot. The director had given us some time to know one other, and I spent an afternoon taking them to a museum, and then shopping. They were delightful. I got them gifts – they loved me!
How did you identify with the role? DA: The story of Stella, the young Cypriot mother in the film, was based on a true story, which instantly drew me to her. Moreover, it is an almost unthinkably difficult situation that she finds herself in, and playing a young mother in life-threatening circumstances such as these, clutching her three month-old baby in the midst of the unforgiving chaos of war, was undoubtedly the most demanding part I’ve ever had to play. Finally, as a Greek-Cypriot actress, the subject matter and role were very close to my heart and I instantly felt passionate about it.

Where did you film and how long did it take you to film? DA: The filming, including some rehearsal time, took about a month. Production took place in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus – in a beautiful Ottoman-style residence which is now an ethnological museum, and along the United Nations Green Line that, 37 years after the invasion, still divides our island in two. Filming took place, literally, amidst armed guards and war-ravaged buildings. So it couldn’t have been better in terms of imagining ourselves in the actual circumstances of the story! The experience was exhausting and edgy, but truly thrilling in its immediacy.
Is there any talk of the film being made into a feature? DA: Not that I know of, but that would be a wonderful idea.

How many languages do you speak? DA: English, Greek and French fluently. Greeks are well-known for learning many languages, mainly because nobody cares to learn ours! I’ve grown up between England, Cyprus and France. I did also try to learn German at some point, but I confess I don’t remember much of it.
How do you prepare to be able to play such different nationalities? DA: It’s true that I’ve been fortunate enough to play an array of quite varied nationalities, for instance I played an Iraqi girl twice – in House of Saddam (BBC/HBO) and Mesocafe – a Mexican in The Ghostwriter, Polanski’s latest, an Alaskan in The Fourth Kind, an Italian on stage, to name but a few.. When I’m preparing for a role that involves a different nationality, I try to get in touch with a girl of my age from that country, and have a chat – their voice, and accent, and particular mannerisms are interesting. For The Fourth Kind, the lovely director Tunde Osunsanmi gave me the number of an Alaskan lady, and I ended up talking to her on the phone for hours (in the middle of the night because of the time difference!) she was so sweet and helpful.

What were your feelings when you heard the film was being considered for a possible 2012 Academy nomination? DA: Delightfully enough, The Palace is eligible for the 84th Academy Awards, after winning Audience Award at Adelaide Film Festival, Best Short Film at Sydney Film Festival and Best Short Film at Melbourne Film Festival. It recently received its International premiere at Telluride Festival and has also been nominated for Best Short Fiction Film at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards. I am, as you can imagine, over the moon, and feel so blessed to have been part of this very special project. I think all involved were passionate about the subject- matter, which is why, I think, it has touched so many people – as for the worldwide approbation, it has come as a wonderful surprise to all of us!
What has been your favorite role to play thus far and why? DA: Undoubtedly, the role of Stella in The Palace! Whilst being a drama student at LAMDA, I fell in love with the character of Masha in Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

If you could play any role who or what would it be? DA: Ooh, what a great question! I’d love to play Lady Macbeth onstage one day. And any one of Chekhov’s characters. And Cleopatra. Most of all, I’d like longevity as an actor, and a wide array of complicated and challenging women characters to portray until well into my old age!
Has your training in law helped you in any roles you have played? DA: I played a legal intern in Polanski’s film The Ghostwriter, and as my character I had to read out a piece of very complicated international criminal law. So, yes, it did help me very much, because I do know what it’s like to study the law and think like a lawyer!

Do you ever wish you had gone into law? DA: I really enjoyed reading Law, and my time at Oxford – but, in all honesty, there is no way I would have survived as a lawyer. I was simply not cut out for it.

What do you love most about acting? DA: I love those first moments when I’ve just read a brand new script, and my brain starts to tick: “so who is this woman?” It’s terrifying, but deliciously exciting.

What advise would you give to someone who has just started acting? DA: Do it only if you’re an extraordinarily positive and determined person!

Emrhys Cooper started his career as a dancer, so it is no wonder he manages to keep in such amazing shape. A little bird also told me he trains with Taylor Lautners celebrity trainer and that certainly won’t do any harm! Not only is he setting ladies hearts a flutter, his sex appeal shone on stage playing ‘Mr Sloane’ in ‘Entertaining Mr Sloane’. His dazzling performance lead to rave reviews and an award in his pocket from Stage Scene LA for ‘Best Performance by a Lead Actor’. We got the chance to talk to this talented actor and discover his desire to play James Bond, who inspires him and who he would love to work with.

A: How have you found the transition from dance to acting?
EC: It has definitely been an exciting challenge. My earliest roots in the UK were rooted I stage (namely involving dance). I find that acting and dancing are more similar artfotms than one might initially think. Both involve expression through action. Simply dance is acting within your body, and acting is portraying ultimately the same emotionality, through speech. I truly have an equal adoration for both artforms.

A: Congratulations on your award for Best Lead actor in Entertaining Mr Sloane, do you prefer stage or screen?
EC: Thank you. While my roots, and earliest foundation, lie in stage performance, I have equal affection for screen. Performing, whether for lens or live audience, shares the common gift of expressing feeling for others to come with you on a journey. No matter the medium, as an actor, I truly draw the same joy from my work.

A: You were applauded for your sex appeal and talent, what was your favourite part of playing Mr Sloane?

EC: My favorite part of the character of Sloane, was exploring and getting behind the many facets and intricacies that he embodies. As an actor, I strive to find and accept roles which always unnerve me, a bit. I find it is within the uncomfortable space of accepting a challenge, that true art and transformation can be fostered.

A: Would you say he is like you as a person?

EC: When portraying any role I try to find my way in, behind the characters eyes and mind, by drawing similarities with myself. However, I should certainly hope the similarities in this instance don’t run too deep…(given the fact that he’s a psychopathic murderer…! Haha!)

A: For Walk a Mile in My Prada’s you play Michael, how was it playing a gay character and have you got many male fans?
EC: The role of Michael was yet another exciting challenge. While the movie has yet to be released I am thankful and look forward to gaining fans of both genders.A: You seem to move easily from comedy to drama, do you have a preference and why?
EC: I honestly can say that I enjoy both comedy and drama equally. Rather than choosing or favoring roles based on genre–I try to get behind an exciting and challenging script. When a thrilling script is matched with skillful direction, I am transfixed. I look for projects that excite me as a performer; that is certainly not something reliant on genre, for me.

A: What has been your most challenging role so far and why?
EC: I definitely feel that the role of Sloane was a welcome and difficult challenge. Being cast in the company of actors whose body if work speaks volumes is both an honor and challenge in and of itself. That coupled with the challenge and dimension of the role itself, proved quite challenging–but, at the same time, limitlessly exciting.

A: If you could play any character what would it be?

EC: I grew up with a somewhat embarrassing fascination with James Bond. I’m somewhat of a Bond geek! I can pretty much name all the movies, characters, and could trump anyone at a Bond trivia game (which is an embarrassing, but true, admission!) James Bond is the ultimate man’s man; and what’s not to love about his lifestyle or all those stunning Bond girls!!

A: If you could act with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why would you choose them?

EC: Great question. I would have loved to, and been honored, to work with James Dean. With a limited number of films, he still accepted creating a timeless and legendary body of work. Also, I would have loved to play opposite Audrey Hepburn. Her grace, elegance and beauty have proven timeless.

A: We heard you recently worked with Jennifer Love-Hewitt, what were you doing and why were you so scantily clad?
EC: So sorry, but there I have to plead the fifth. Looking forward to being able to talk about the details soon, however.

A: What made you get into acting?
EC: My father was/is an actor. I was always drawn to performance and began dancing at 6 years of age, acting at 10. Performance was always what held my heart–it was a way for me to express myself, be myself, even be who I’m not, without being thought strange. Creatively, performance was and is the outlet I always craved. It is a true blessing to be able to work at your truest love.

A: You have an amazing physic, how many hours do you train a week and what is your best tip for keeping in shape?
EC: Well, thanks! I would love to be able to say I dont work at it, but truthfully I do! I see working out as a means by which to both work on my health, fitness, and calm myself down–as I’m one of those annoying too-much-energy types. I love working out amidst nature: hiking, heading to the beach are great. Dance is and will be my favorite workout.

A: What do you love most about London?
EC: The people, the history, the beauty of the culture….what’s not to love, in my humble (and somewhat biased) opinion.A: What do you most miss about London?
EC: I miss my friends and family most. It’s hard to be far away from the people you love. However, I’m fortunate to have fostered a wonderful group of friends here in LA.

A: How do you find living in LA compared to London?
EC: While I miss the theater if The West End, and sometimes the buzz of the city, I find LA a much easier place to live…especially because of the gorgeous weather.A: What tip would you give to some who was visiting London for the first time?
EC: I would love to share some of my favorite places and sights with a London-first-timer. I would certainly advise someone I would tell them to get lunch on the South-bank, a stroll around Covent Garden, a trip to the Tate Modern, or go see The London Eye…(no pun intended)! Oh, and don’t miss Harrods!!

A: What have you got coming up next?
EC: I have a couple of upcoming films shooting next year, will be remounting Entertaining Mr Sloane, and hope to also do some projects back home in the UK–be sure to stay tuned (please

A: How do people keep in touch with you?
EC: Everyone is welcome to keep in touch via my Twitter or Facebook pages.

A: Is there anything else you would like to share?
EC: I think we’ve covered such a great deal, I dare not bore you with anything more! (just kidding) but, I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted via my social media and website, for my next developments!

Tehmina Sunny is Beautiful, British and about to grace our big screens in a number of new films. Enviably she gets to share the screen with Ben Affleck in his new film ‘Argo’ and stars as Sonubai in ‘Singularity’. We took a moment out of this busy actresses crazy work schedule to find out more about her upcoming work, her Indian culture and what she misses most about London.

Creme tiered gown: PLEIN SUD www.pleinsud.com

A: What has been your favorite role so far and why?

TS: I enjoyed playing the character Sonubai on the project ‘Singularity’. She has ruthless intentions and very clear agendas to get what she wants. It’s exciting to play characters far from who I am. This character was challenging but exciting to create.

A: Tell us about your characters in Singularity and Argo?

AS: In Singularity, my character sets the ball rolling for the obstacles that occur in the period piece of the film. Sounds confusing, but when you watch it, it will make sense.

In Argo, the character I play creates tension for Ben Affleck’s character to pursue his journey. Can’t give too much away I’m afraid.

A: What was it like working with Ben Affleck?

TS: It was actually one of my highlights to date. I’ve admired Bens’ work as an actor and director for years.

A: Coming from an Indian background, what do you love most about the culture?

TS: The culture itself, which is full of history meshed with different beliefs. I like Bollywood films, delicious culinary dishes, yoga, stunning costumes and jewelry, the music, the way everything is colorful and the people.

A: How do you find working in LA compared to London?

TS: LA is an actor friendly town with lots of businesses catering for the industry, which is a good support system. But whether filming on set in London or LA, the process and comparison is very similar. Apart from the guarantee of good sunny weather in LA.

A: How did you get into acting?

TS: I embarked on a few acting classes while I was songwriting to see if I could enhance the songs I was singing. I was eager to understand the element of creating a character. It was by chance, that a British acting agent asked if he could represent me as an actress. I have never looked back since.

A: What do you miss about London?

TS: Family, friends and good fish and chips.

A: What can we see you in next?

TS: Singularity will be releasing early next year and ‘Elevator’ will be circuiting the film festivals.

A: What is your favorite part of your career?

TS: The work itself, I get great enjoyment from it. The creating of a character, defining the back-story, circumstances, agenda.

A: What do people recognize you from?

TS: I guess Californication was a show that lots of people watched and I was recognized in.

A: How do people keep in touch with your work?

TS: I have a page on FB that is constantly updated or by following me on twitter @tehminasunny

The big British TV news that broke over the weekend was that former Doctor Who star Catherine Tate will reprise her cameo from The Office in a recurring role.

According to the BBC:

The actress was first seen on the show at the end of the last series as one of the candidates hoping to replace outgoing regional manager Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell.

Producers said Tate would reprise her role as Nellie Bertram, a misguided special projects manager.

She will join the show during the second half of the eighth series currently being aired in the US.

The series will see Tate’s character hired by friend and chairman of the board Jo Bennett (Kathy Bates) working directly for the corporate office.

“Catherine is hysterical,” said executive producer Paul Lieberstein.

“We introduced her briefly in last season’s finale and knew she had to be a part of the show somehow. We’re thrilled that she’s joining the cast.”

He added Bertram’s relationship with new chief executive officer Robert California – played by James Spader – would be “far from professional”.

Tabloids are taking pains to state that they got married at the same place as his first marriage to Linda McCartney – hopefully that will give them a bit of luck that this will go better than his last go at marriage!

Saturday saw a return to Chicago Comic Con. It was interesting to see that the large crowds from Friday had gotten bigger and the dealers room was chaotic with even more people.

So far Tom Baker was winning the Doctor Who lookalike contest 6-5 over the fez/mop 11th Doctor.

The big event for the day for Anglophiles was a panel by Sir Patrick Stewart. Stewart was suppposed to attend CCC last year but had to cancel.

For this panel the Yorkshire born actor was accompanied by his son Daniel who also appeared in Star Trek The Next Generation. Stewart’s panel started about 20 minutes late, but he did stay late to make up the time and spent the full time allotted for the panel with his fans. He then spent about another hour or so signing autographs before being whisked away to Las Vegas for the annaul Trek convention there.

Stewart appeared to be enjoying himself and was cordial and friendly.

(photo: Getty Images)

Although Stewart did not talk about working with David Tennant in Hamlet he did offer some interesting stories about his early career and being cast in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

He began the panel with a funny story about falling asleep during a shot on ST:TNG. He also made a joke with the audience about LeVar Burton’s dancing.

His son Daniel also spoke about growing up with the cast and how supportive they were for is young career. He also was interesting and pleasant.

Stewart’s best bits were about his work after he left the Royal Shakespeare Society. This of course eventually led to his being cast in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also talked about meeting Gene Roddenberry who did not want to cast him at first.

Stewart does not do a lot of cons these days so this rare panel was a treat for Anglophiles. Unfortunately he charges $75 dollars an autograph which is pretty brutal for the average fan. So for many this was as close as they got to meeting him.

He and his son went all out to make sure this was an engaging and interestitng chat for their fans.

As for the rest of the con….

There were a lot of people in 4th and 11th Doctor outfits and a few scattered 10thDoctor costumes were seen as well. Most of the dealers in the dealers room did not have Who merchandise but several video guys had crappy bootlegs of the current season and other Brit shows like Outcasts, Demons or Red Dwarf.

I checked in on Kai Owen & Gareth David-Lloyd. They had a table full of gifts given to them by fans. They were incredibly cordial to their fans and took time to visit and chat with everyone getting an autograph. They were kind of bummed to only have one panel at the con.

The largest dealer with Doctor Who merch was Alien Entertainment out of chicago. They help host Chicago TARDIS and have a shop in Lombard, Illinois. They are working very hard to get more guests for Chicago TARDIS (like someone on the current show who is not the Doctor or his 2 companions) in November. They also have big plans for the 50th anniversary in 2013.

In general, unless you were there to see Stewart, it was a pretty bleak day for Anglophiles but a fun day for SF fans of many genres.

Since making the move to Tinseltown, David who first rose to public recognition as the adorable Marcus in Channel 4’s Dogma TV has been working with the biggest stars in the business.

His catalogue of hotly anticipated movies includes The Last Supper, a dramatic retelling of the world’s most famous tale of betrayal. David takes on the infamous role of Judas in this stellar cast that also includes the Oscar-Nominated Robert Loggia. The compelling drama tells the age-old story of Jesus of Nazareth, Judas’s treachery, and Saint Paul’s last days as an elderly apostle awaiting his fate at the hands of the Roman Empire. The Last Supper is tipped to be an epic success; industry insiders are already talking about David’s phenomenal performance and film offers are flooding in.

Born and raised in London, David has enchanted British audiences with critically acclaimed performances on the UK’s favorite TV shows. Most notably as the hapless Peter Symonds on the BAFTA Award-Winning police Drama The Bill and as the sinister Jeffery Blunstone on the much loved BBC comedy Love Soup working with Royal Television Society Award-Winner Tamsin Gregg (Episodes, Shaun of the Dead, The Diary of Anne Frank).

It’s no surprise Hollywood beckoned this hugely talented young actor; also watch out for his next movie, a spectacular big screen adaptation of Lewis Carol’s Hunting of the Snark directed by Michael McNeff and narrated by the legendary BAFTA Award-Winner Sir Christopher Lee – coming soon!

If you have ever been a fan of Snatch or Lock Stock then you will LOVE this new series. Darren Darnborough and Craig Robert Young have successfully managed to break Hollywood with a string of top shows! Darren Darnborough’s most recent being HBO’s hit show True Blood and Craig Robert Young’s the high rating prime time NCIS LA alongside LL Cool J. Both British actors are also starring in a hot new comedy about two bumbling British gangsters ‘Andy & Chaz Bugger Off To America’.

“Andy & Chaz is what would happen if you put ‘The Hangover’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’ in a blender, with a little bit of Del Boy”.

We caught up with Darren, Craig and the director Richard Keith to find out more about this laugh out loud series.

Darren Darnborough AKA Chaz

Tell us about your character Chaz?

DD: Chaz is a career criminal, has been since birth, and whilst his brother Andy is trying to get out of the game and lead a straight life, Chaz simply cannot help but get into trouble. He’s a loose cannon, lives on the edge, and finds ladies, being naughty and the good life too hard to resist, and often ends up in disastrous situations that his brother Andy has to bail him out of. He’s the kind of guy that on a date would be robbing your purse with one hand, whilst feeling up your boobs with the other.

What makes him not be able to stay out of trouble?

DD: It’s just far too exciting, and the opportunity seems to punch him in the face.

How effective is he as a ‘polite’ gangster?

DD: Well, he’s pretty effective at robbing people whilst being polite, but his takings suffer as he does have an endearing side, and Robin Hood mentality.

Tell us more about your character in True Blood?

DD: I play a punk bartender in a flashback of Bill Compton’s to London 1982, where it’s revealed that I become Bill’s dinner for the evening, and am effectively a catalyst for him to be discovered by Nan Flanagan, which is integral to where his character ends up today. It was fun to get into the whole punk rock regalia (it’s always been my dream to play Johnny Rotten in a movie) and immerse yourself in a time where vampires are unknown, so it’s really quite a shock when one takes you down an alleyway to feast!

What was your favorite part of acting in the show?

DD: Working with a great team of super-talented, super-professional people. Everyone is a lot of fun, but also great to work with, and the attention to detail on the show is fantastic – you really do feel like you are making quality television that counts.

If you could play any role, what would it be?

DD: I would love to play Johnny Rotten in film, and any film set in Vegas… I have a mild obsession with the Vegas movie as a genre.

What do you miss about London?

DD: Honestly, not too much as I love being in LA and really made an effort to immerse myself in this city, but I do miss a lovely summer’s day in the parks, beautiful architecture, certain people, and it has to be said, the integrity of relationships.

What do you love most about living in LA?

DD: Pretty much everything – the people, the talent, the variety of landscapes and activities, the opportunity – but if I had to sum it up quickly, it would simply be “the enthusiasm and zest for life.”

Craig Robert Young AKA Andy

How have you found the transition from the UK to LA?

CRY: I moved to LA in 1999 – So I feel I’ve pretty much adjusted. At the time of the move it took me a good 6 months to adjust, I also recently became a US citizen

Tell us more about Andy?

CRY: Andy is the sensible brother and is pleased to be in LA so he can start a fresh – he dreams of a better life, a simple life. The white picket fence, wife and kids, but he is constantly brought in to his brother Chaz’s escapades and has to dig them out of the trouble caused

What made him want to go straight?

CRY: He was born into a life of crime as he had no choice and he thinks the grass is greener, he’s really tired of running. He was due to get married back in England, but that was before Chaz ‘accidentally’ killed our boss’s right hand man. I had to get him out of dodge before revenge was exacted.

What has been your favorite acting role so far and why?

CRY: My favourite acting role so far has been Alfred Hoffman on the TV show Fringe. I got to play a German scientist from 1940′s who came to present day to exact revenge on the bishop family, he has invented a formula to target specific types, Jews, People with brown eyes. His experiments are working and just before he killed everyone at the world tolerance convention. Walter Bisop kills my character by modifying my own formula. It was great rich character and it was fulfilling to sink my teeth into.

If you could play any role, what would it be?

CRY: Bond, James Bond

What do you miss about London?

CRY: My friends and walking, the good pubs and fish and chips.

What do you love most about living in LA?

CRY: Hiking, The Ocean, Great restaurants and the opportunity of work.

Richard Keith – AKA Great Director

How did you come up with the idea for Andy & Chaz?

RK: It came about while working on another project called “complex” which followed the intersecting lives of these people who lived in a large apartment complex. The first two characters we worked on were two petty thieves barely making their way robbing their neighbors. We improvised a scene with them. And from that Andy and Chaz were born. I liked them so much that I wrote an entire series of scripts based on that improv. The biggest change being that they were not small time crooks anymore they were full fledged British gangsters and on the run for their

lives… Higher stakes.

Did you have moment directing when it was hard for you not to laugh at the scene?

RK: Yes, there was a scene and we have it on our Facebook where Darren (Chaz) asks Craig (Andy) “What are we gonna do now?” and we had to reshoot this and retake this at least twenty times, for some reason they got the giggles and couldn’t stop. It’s pretty brilliant even I was losing it. Here’s a link

Will we see a second series?

RK: That’s the plan!

What do you feel the benefits are of web series?

RK: Control of content, control of release, the ability to self-censor. What you see is straight from us, no middlemen no interference.

What are you working on now?

RK: Well still working on this both in webisode form and feature version. Besides that a new series called “The Adventures of Dude and Bro” which is as insane as Andy and Chaz, that will be out by the end of the year, fingers crossed maybe sooner. And the humor in that is about as delightfully sick as it gets.

Were there some British sayings that you learned during filming?

RK: Rhyming slang, china plates equals best mates and such. I had never known about that before.

What is your favorite scene?

RK: I really like the polite robber scene, it’s a toss up between that and the asthmatic hooker sex scene. Both are pretty brilliant.

Do you have a preference working with comedy or drama?

RK: Definitely comedy. The feedback is immediate and there’s nothing better than. 300 people laughing at the same time at a joke you’ve written. Better than sex, drugs or Rick and roll.

An abundance of exciting roles followed including; King of Queens, NCIS, All of Us, Damages, Brothers and Sisters, Garfield 2 to name but a few. Now Judi has a role she can really sink her teeth into and has just finished filming her role of Zafrina, leader of the Amazon coven in Twilight’s Breaking Dawn, as a Twilight fan herself she loved bringing the character of Zafrina to life.

Recently the news broke that Judi is the most anticipated new Vampire from a poll by Team Twilight one of the largest Twilight Fan organisations. With all this anticipation, Judi wanted to share something she supports and introduce you to the UK’s Bite The Ballot Campaign. With the huge number of young people who do not vote in the UK, 60% in fact!

Judi wanted to get behind the Bite the Ballot Campaign to encourage young people to learn about politics, share their own voice and use their vote. Politics effects what we do every single day so making your own choices and knowing what your options are is essential, even from the very first vote! This campaign was founded by fellow actor Michael Sani and breaks the barriers to let you know that politics can be simple, personal and fun. It also follows in the footsteps of the American campaign ‘Rock The Vote’ which saw a huge increase in young people voting for the first time.

As well as Judi ITN’s Alistair Stewart, Actress Rosie Fellner, Eastenders star Tanya Franks, British Director Adrian Vitoria, Actor Shaun Parkes, Nick Clegg and Simon Hughes also support this campaign. Judi would love you to support this campaign too, by following them on Twitter joining the Facebook and/or donating on their website Bite The Ballot – Be The Difference!

One late Friday afternoon in October of 2009, two American girls visiting the UK for the very first time found their way by bus to Camden in North London. The rain was sporadic, as it often is in the Big Smoke, and we enjoyed racing through it, finding solace under awnings, a newly-purchased hat from a street vendor, and a free copy of The Evening Standard as we pub-crawled our way through some of Camden’s edgy watering holes. At one point during our adventure, we decided to ask for a recommendation on where to go next. We happened upon a rather handsome looking bloke standing next to a motorcycle and, being the flirts that we were, engaged him in conversation. He looked amused as he gave us a sideways grin and responded, “Right…You should go to The Hawley Arms. Amy Winehouse goes there.”

Both of us, being huge fans of her music, decided that was an excellent idea. After receiving some directions from our motorcycle-riding friend, we were off. Just moments later, we walked through the doors of The Hawley Arms, a cosy pub that boasted an eclectic crowd milling about inside and out, and a bar staff with a very dry wit. I remember thinking that we were getting just a tiny, PG-13 glimpse into Amy Winehouse’s world. We were frolicking at Amy’s local for the night, partaking in a few libations, meeting interesting people, and having a grand ol’ time.

Fast-forward to Saturday, the 23rd of July, 2011. I awoke to the news that Amy Winehouse had been found dead in her London home. And as inevitable as that fate may have seemed to those on the outside looking in at her troubled life and her long battle with addiction, it still gutted me to hear that it had happened, that it was real. I didn’t know her personally, and yet I did; she laid herself bare in her music, her voice dripping with the pain she was trying to find her way through, not unlike so many genius artists before her. Her music got me through some extremely difficult times in my life—times where I was feeling as low as a person could possibly feel. And there was Amy, her incredible voice flowing out of my speakers like honey, wrapping around me like a warm blanket and reminding me that someone, somewhere had felt some of what I was feeling in those moments, and had lived through the pain to tell others about it in her own, unique way.

The 23rd of July got exponentially more dismal as the day went on, as I heard about the horrors of what had occurred in Norway. And the day also got meaner and more judgmental. As I read articles about both stories on various news outlets and watched the commentary pour in from people on different social networking sites, my heart ached to see things like “She got what she deserved,” “They tried to make her go to Rehab, but she said no, no, no,” “Who cares- stupid druggie and drunk,” and also comments that everyone should be more concerned with the real problems in the world, and not the self-inflicted demise of some overindulgent celebrity.

Reading things like that… It made me angry. Of course, what had happened in Norway was absolutely devastating; no one would ever, ever dispute that. And of course, my thoughts and prayers were with the innocent victims of that tragedy and their families, praying for their peace and solace in the face of such unexpected, abject horror. But that didn’t mean that I didn’t have the capacity to feel sadness about ALL of it. I shouldn’t have to apologise for feeling sad that one of my favourite singer/songwriters had left this world far too soon, nor should anyone else for that matter.

The thing is, Amy Winehouse was more than just some celebrity with a drinking and drug problem who regularly made the tabloids. She was a human being. She was someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend. She represents the loved one in your life or the acquaintance that is struggling with the disease of addiction. She represents the person you get so angry with because you love them so much and can see them destroying themselves, but there’s not a damn thing you can do about it, because they have to want to be helped. No amount of pleading, wishing, praying, and crying will change that fact.

One thing that really got me was I had just been listening to Amy’s debut album Frank on the Friday afternoon before she died, listening to her belt out Take the Box, shaking my head at how bloody talented she was as her voice flooded my ears, and hoping she would be able to get her life together and put out more music.

And now that will never happen. That is a tragedy in and of itself, but the real tragedy is that her family and friends will never see her again. They, and the millions of fans of her music around the world, can only hope that her death will act as a wake-up call to others who are struggling with the disease of addiction, and compel them to get the help they so desperately need before it’s too late. As her friend Russell Brand pointed out in his poignant tribute to Amy, “When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction, you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they’ve had enough, that they’re ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it’s too late, she’s gone. Frustratingly, it’s not a call you can ever make; it must be received. It is impossible to intervene.”

The name of this column is Chuffed to Bits, which is an English expression for being delighted or excited about something. I write about all things English that delight or excite me. The musical legacy that Amy Winehouse left behind will always have me chuffed to bits. I will never forget the way her music has touched my life, and how it has inspired me. I hope her life’s work serves to inspire artists and fans of music in the generations to come, and my heart goes out to her family and friends, grappling with the loss of their loved one. Rest in peace, Amy.

In ’Safeflight-19’ food is limited and society has collapsed. Zero tolerance police and an almost draconian style governments help maintain law and order in these cities but travel between them is extremely dangerous, with almost everyone lacking in morals or guilt. With travel now extremely dangerous, the remaining governments ordered the construction of Safe Lights, fortified way stations offering some safety from the perils of the road. But stuck on continual darkness with the perils of day to day living, can they ever really be safe?

Michael Sani stars as Frank James a man battling his own personal demons. He has lost lovedone’s and has nowhere to run. He searches desperately for a new reason to exist and escape the hell. Frank makes his own personal stand against the dark, a battle always on the verge of being won or lost. During this chaotic existence Frank becomes wrapped up in the events and lives of those he has stumbled upon in Safelight-19. He faces a new battle, one where he must make a stand for the greater good where the stakes are the lives of those around him.

Safelight-19 is produced by Tavin Titus ‘X:Men’, ‘Day After Tomorrow’ and directed British independent Director Darren S Cook, who offered Michael a role having worked with previously. Other cast members include: Ian Vergo ‘Doctors’, Charlotte Atkinson ‘Harry Potter’ and Forbes KB ‘Ashes to Ashes’.

With Michael’s enthralling portrayal of Frank James, this series is sure to be a Science Fiction favourite. The world of Safelight-19 is a vicious place, where dust from the comet strike has blocked the light from the sun, creating days that are filled with a grey light and nights that are pitch black.

You can also see the talented actor soon in the brand new feature ‘The Summoning’ which he was handpicked for by Hollywood producers.

David Tennant recently starred in a Saturday Play on BBC Radio Four called The Purple Land. And we have it here for you to listen to.

Here’s what it’s about:

Published in 1885, The Purple Land was the first novel of William Henry Hudson, author of Green Mansions. The Anglo-Argentine naturalist distinguished himself both as one of the finest craftsmen of prose in English literature and as a thinker on ecological matters far ahead of his time.

In Davies’ hands this ‘road novel’ becomes a fast paced romp in the tradition of Tom Jones, with a dash of Don Quixote for good measure.

It is an exuberant, wryly comic account of a young Englishman’s imprudent adventures, set against a background of political strife in nineteenth-century South America. Eloping with an Argentine girl, young Richard Lamb makes an implacable enemy of his teenage bride’s father. Leaving her behind, he goes ignorantly forth into the interior of the country to seek his fortune.

Whilst doing so he learns to hunt, ride, herd, love – even kill. On his way to becoming a man.

Hemingway alluded to this book in his masterpiece “The Sun Also Rises”, claiming that “The Purple Land” is ‘dangerous reading if read too late in life’.

Hopefully – it doesn’t make for dangerous listening!

David and Victoria are now happy parents to a healthy baby girl – their first.

Victoria was noticeably absent from Will and Kate’s events this weekend in LA as she was due imminently.

The baby girl weighed 7lb 10oz and was delivered on Sunday at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.

They’re mum on what they’ve named her – for now.

That said – technically their new baby girl is an American and could run for President one day!

Many congrats to the happy family!

About the Places Featured in the Video:

Bath

This world-famous city has originated and developed around its hot spring waters discovered by the Romans, and the famous Roman Baths remain to this day. Unfortunately, you can’t bathe here as the Romans did, but you can in the Thermae Bath Spa , which uses the same warm, mineral-rich waters the Celts and Romans did 2,000 years ago. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Britain’s Heritage Cities, Bath is home to some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge. But Bath is not buried in the past! Festivals, theatre and vibrant street entertainment bring life and excitement to this beautiful city.

Buckingham Palace, London

The official residence of British sovereigns since 1837 is open to the public for only eight weeks a year. Visitors can explore the 19 state rooms that house the treasures of the Royal Collection, admire the finest French and English furniture, see paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens and Poussin and marvel at the varied and exotic planting of the 42-acre garden. This year, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress will also be on display. The Duchess chose British brand Alexander McQueen and worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress. The dress will go on display alongside the shoes and earrings worn by the Duchess on 29 April when she married Prince William, as well as the magnificent Halo Tiara.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Every year, around 100 million people around the world watch the colourful spectacle of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on TV, in addition to the 217,000 who turn up at the event itself. The historic setting for the Tattoo is the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, which dominates the city from its position on top of an extinct volcano. As well as fantastic views, highlights of the castle include the Honours of Scotland (the nation’s Crown Jewels), which were first used at the coronation of Mary Queen of Scots, who was only nine months old at the time. The medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, while the innovative Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood Park has won several architectural awards. The city is a hotbed of culture, with numerous museums, galleries and theatres, while its annual festival is famous throughout the world. Edinburgh also has a wide range of excellent eating places, including five Michelin-starred restaurants: Number One (at Balmoral Hotel), 21212, Kitchin, Martin Wishart and the Plumed Horse.

Leeds, Yorkshire

Leeds is the cultural and economic heart of West Yorkshire, in northern England. It contains more listed buildings in any English city outside London, including the marble and mosaic arcades of the Victoria Quarter, now an upmarket shopping centre. As well as shopping, a young student population ensures plenty of bars and clubs, while culture vultures won’t be bored – the city is home to the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Opera North and Northern Ballet as well as several museums, including the Royal Armouries. If you want to explore the countryside, the beautiful landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park are only 20 miles away, offering opportunities for walking, cycling, caving or a trip on the Settle-Carlisle railway, England’s most scenic rail route. Then there’s the food – the chance to try Yorkshire pudding, a savoury batter dish served with roast beef, in its original home, or parkin (sweet ginger cake), liquorice or rhubarb. With five Michelin-starred restaurants across Yorkshire as well as plenty of pubs offering local produce, you won’t go hungry!

Cotswolds

For many visitors, the Cotswolds represent everything that is quintessentially “English”, with villages and churches of honey-coloured limestone set among gentle hillsides (“wolds”), cottage gardens, beech woods and drystone walls (built without cement to hold the stones together). No wonder it’s designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You’ll see many sheep on those hills – the grand manors and churches were paid for from the profits of the high-quality wool of their ancestors during the Middle Ages. Antique shops, galleries and tea rooms in the market towns and villages do a roaring trade, but there are also plenty of historical sights, such as Sudeley Castle and Chedworth Roman Villa. Modern as well as historical films and TV dramas have been filmed here, including Harry Potter, Bridget Jones’s Diary, James Bond and Doctor Who. And don’t forget to try some of the excellent local produce, such as Gloucester Old Spot pork, Tewkesbury mustard or cheese – the Cotswold Cheese Company in Moreton on Marsh has a good selection.

Brighton, East Sussex

A lively resort on the south coast, an hour from London by train, Brighton is often known as Silicon Beach due to the large number of businesses involved in digital media. Two universities and numerous language schools that attract thousands of overseas students give the place a youthful buzz, along with several festivals, such as the Brighton Festival (arts) and Brighton Pride (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender). The maze of narrow streets near the seafront, known as “The Lanes”, is all that remains of the fishing village of Brighthelmstone. The resort really took off after the Prince Regent (later George IV) visited in 1783 and later moved there. The elegant Georgian terraces from the period look positively restrained compared with George’s Royal Pavilion, which combines exotic Chinese interiors with Indian spires and domes. Victorian developments include the two piers and Volk’s Electric Railway, the world’s oldest operating electric railway.

Brick Lane, London

Brick Lane in east London, famous for its countless curry restaurants, is the heart of the city’s Bangladeshi community. Monica Ali’s 2003 novel Brick Lane was set here, as was the 2007 feature film. In recent years the area has become popular with fashion and art students – the enormous Sunday market at Spitalfields spills over into Brick Lane, and the Old Truman Brewery is now an office and entertainment complex. Other nearby Sunday markets include Columbia Road (flowers and plants) and Petticoat Lane (cheap clothes and bric-a-brac).

Glasgow

Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, famous for its culture, architecture, and design. Situated on the River Clyde on the country’s west coast, it’s known as Scotland’s style capital – a title reflected in its innovative buildings, stylish shops, cultural centres, more than 30 art galleries and museums and an annual programme of performing arts and festivals. Glasgow has a history that stretches back to the Stone Age, but the hallmark of the city is its architecture. It’s the Art Nouveau ‘Glasgow Style’ for which the city has become famous, and no visitor should miss a trip to the Glasgow School of Art, the undisputed masterwork of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the city’s most famous son. If you love museums, your only problem in Glasgow will be deciding which one to go to next. The Burrell Collection is home to the private collection of millionaire shipping owner Sir William Burrell; and the Hunterian Museum is home to one of the top five collections in Scotland.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire

Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most important prehistoric monuments in the world, dating back an astonishing 5,000 years. The stones stand on a small mound in a vast plain of the Wiltshire countryside, not far from Salisbury. The two concentric circles, enclosed by a deep trench in the earth, were probably constructed in stages over 1,600 years. Some of the stones travelled over 240 miles to reach Wiltshire, and their size and scale often surprises first-time visitors. The heaviest weigh 50 tonnes – it would have taken 600 men to move just one! We still don’t know the original purpose of Stonehenge. Some say it was a temple to worship the gods, while others describe it as an astronomical observatory, or prehistoric calendar, because of the way it aligns with the sun and moon. English Heritage, which manages the site, allows free entry every year to people who want to celebrate the summer solstice (20/21 June) – this is a very popular event. There are many neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in the surrounding landscape, and Avebury, the largest stone circle in Europe, is also nearby.

About the Places in the Video:

Garrick Theatre

Opened in 1889, the Garrick Theatre on Charing Cross Road was named after the famous Shakesperean actor David Garrick. It was paid for by WS Gilbert, author of the comic operas, though construction was held up for a while when a river was discovered running under the site. The theatre has narrowly escaped demolition twice – once in 1934, when there were plans to turn it into a “super cinema”, and again in 1968, when the Greater London Council wanted to redevelop Covent Garden. Both schemes were abandoned. Actors and directors who have worked here include Laurence Olivier, Richard Attenborough, Margaret Rutherford, Dame Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Frankie Howerd and Edward Fox. Rupert Everett, Kara Tointon and Dame Diana Rigg are currently appearing in Pygmalion.

Althorp, Northamptonshire

Many of the scenes in Another Country, the film starring Rupert Everett (1984), were shot in Althorp, the family home of the Spencer family. Of course, the estate, around 65 miles north of London, has since become more famous as the burial place of Diana, Princess of Wales. The Georgian house, remodelled by Henry Holland in the 18th century, has just been restored and is open to the public during the summer. The grand honey-coloured stables contain an exhibition celebrating the life of Diana, while her grave is on a small island in the middle of a lake. There’s also an annual literary festival, which has featured authors including Twiggy, Dr David Starkey and Hugo Vickers.

Chichester, West Sussex

A cathedral city near the south coast of England, about 55 miles south-west of London, Chichester is famous for its flourishing art scene. Sir Laurence Olivier was the first artistic director of the Chichester Festival Theatre in 1962, and the actors in the company became the nucleus of the National Theatre Company, with productions transferring to the Old Vic in London. The Festival season runs from April to September and includes everything from old and new drama to musicals and comedy. The programme this year features several Terence Rattigan productions to mark the centenary of the writer’s birth. Other cultural draws include the Pallant House Gallery, which has a major collection of modern British art, and the Norman cathedral, with a window by Marc Chagall and a tapestry by John Piper.

Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire

About 35 miles west of London and close to Heathrow Airport, Henley is inextricably linked with its annual Royal Regatta. With up to 90 races over five days, the Regatta was first held in 1839 and attracts crews from around the world. If you fancy exploring the course yourself, you can hire a rowing boat or take it easy on a commercially run trip. Alternatively, you can find out more at the River and Rowing Museum, where you are greeted by statues of Olympic winners Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent. If culture’s more your thing, the Henley Festival of Music and Arts, where entertainers perform on a floating stage, or the Henley Literary Festival may appeal. Parts of the 2007 movie St Trinian’s were shot at Park Place, just outside Henley.

Our friends at Visit Britain have launched a new television advertising campaign – their first in 10 years – to promote Britain to the world. They’ve enlisted the help of 5 major celebrities and made a few short films about their favorite places in Britain. The third video has Twiggy show us her favorite sites in London and talks about British fashion.

About the attractions in the video:

Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge, the first new crossing of the Thames for more than 100 years, links St Paul’s Cathedral on the north bank with Tate Modern on the south. The shallow suspension bridge was nicknamed “the wobbly bridge” when it was closed two days after opening on 10 June 2000, because the collective rhythm of pedestrians crossing the bridge caused it to oscillate and sway. Nearly two years later, the bridge was reopened after dampers, or shock absorbers were fitted – it’s been fine ever since. In the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the bridge is destroyed by Lord Vordemort’s Death Eaters.

Tate Modern

Britain’s national museum of modern and contemporary art from around the world is housed in the former Bankside Power Station designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The dramatic entrance through the enormous Turbine Hall has hosted several memorable exhibitions, from Ai Weiwei’s 100 million porcelain sunflower seeds to Olafur Eliasson’s weather project. In the other galleries you can see work by artists such as Cézanne, Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso, Rothko, Dalí, Pollock, Warhol and Bourgeois – all free. Work is currently in progress on a new building to the south of the current gallery: this includes converting vast oil tanks into a new performance and exhibition space. If you’d like to visit Tate Britain as well, a river boat runs between the two galleries.

St Paul’s Cathedral

There’s never been a better time to visit St Paul’s, as a £40 million cleaning and repair programme – one of the largest and most impressive restoration projects ever undertaken in the UK – was formally completed in June 2011. This year also marks the 300th anniversary of the cathedral being declared “complete” by Parliament. The cathedral took 35 years to build after the cathedral’s predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. Its architect, Sir Christopher Wren, is buried in the crypt, along with Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington, whose funerals were held here. Visitors can climb the 528 steps up to one of the largest domes in the world, via the famous Whispering Gallery, where a whisper on one side of the dome can be heard from the other side. During the London Blitz in the Second World War, the cathedral became a symbol of the city’s resilience and strength: behind the High Altar, the American Memorial Chapel honours more than 28,000 American servicemen and women who died while on their way to, or stationed in, the UK during the war. More recent national events held here include thanksgiving services for the Golden Jubilee and 80th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.

Carnaby Street

During the 1960s, Carnaby Street in Soho represented “swinging London” around the world, with its mix of fashionable boutiques and underground bars aimed at a younger, newer generation. Novelty fashions, many featuring Union flags, were dismissed by some: “the codswallop fashions of perverted peacocks” wrote one newspaper. By the end of the decade, Carnaby Street was the second most popular tourist attraction after Buckingham Palace. Today, the pedestrianised area around the street mixes global brands with independent boutiques and concept stores, as well as bars, restaurants and clubs.
