British airways has launched a Winter/Spring 2012 airfare sale that presents some great deals on Airfares to Britain for the first half of 2012.

One interesting thing they’re doing with this sale is how they’re presenting their prices – their prices now INCLUDE taxes and fees. No misleading teaser airfares – what you see it what you pay. This is an excellent development for the travel industry and I hope more airlines take note.

Understanding that the average person loses about 30% of his/her taste at cruising altitude, British Airways has been working with experts to perfect catering improvements that will leave all customers, even the foodies, pleading for seconds.

The updates include:

• For the first time, World Traveller Plus (premium economy) customers will enjoy Club World (business class) meals.
• Drambuie 15, the award-winning premium aged Scotch whiskey liquor, will be served on British Airways longhaul flight routes in First and business classes.
• In Club World, a selection of tasty new options are being introduced, including Hereford beef and corn fed chicken for main courses and elegant finger sandwiches and miniature pastries as part of the afternoon tea service.
• Substantial investment in champagne and wines onboard, with new premium vintages being introduced. Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle is the latest champagne to be featured in First, while Club World customers will enjoy Taittinger.

British Airways has launched an update for Android which, like their iPhone app, now gives users the ability to log-in with their name and booking reference. This new functionality opens up mobile boarding to all passengers regardless of whether they are an Executive Club member. They are planning to roll this out to other devices in 2012

New York (JFK), Washington and Philadelphia International airports have become the first US airports to offer British Airways passengers the ability to use mobile boarding passes on flights to the UK. Jeddah, Lagos and Riyadh have also been added to the expanding lists, which currently includes all flights from the UK (except on the LCY-JFK route) and most
European and Canadian airports that British Airways operates from.

The British Airways museum at the airlines’ headquarters has re-opened its doors, as the Speedbird Centre, after an extensive redevelopment programme.The centre showcases the past, present and future of the airline and is open to staff, researchers and members of the public by appointment.

Items on display reflect the rich history of the airline including the flight log from the very first scheduled international flight, which departed from London to Paris on August 25 1919, to uniforms spanning 90 years of aviation right up to the newly introduced cabin crew iPad application. The Speedbird Centre also showcases the airlines’ new World Traveller and World Traveller Plus cabins as well as the award winning Club World and First seats.

The Speedbird Centre houses an extensive range of exclusive advertising posters designed by artists such as Frank Wotton dating back to the 1950’s and photographs from the 1920s to the present. Britain’s public sector unions are going on strike about their pensions and the UK Border Agency is one of those affected organizations. This means that front line staff who manage customs at Britain’s airports and seaports won’t be on duty or will have skelton staffs.

This means huge delays for travelers.

Some papers are reporting that tourists could spend up to 12 hours in line waiting to get into Britain. Not only will this delay people attempting to enter Britain but will severely affect people trying to make connecting flights.

If you’re traveling on All Inclusive Holidays – you shouldn’t have to worry too much about delays.

Our friends at British Airways have released a statement saying that if you’re going to London on the 30th you can reschedule your flight at no extra cost, subject to availability.

According to TravelMole – British Airways and American Airlines are going to increase their daily flights out of JFK.

From TravelMole:

British Airways and American Airlines are increasing schedules between Heathrow and New York JFK next year.

Flights will increase from 11 to 13 on March 25, with one extra from BA and the other from American.

Tickets are already on sale.

The news was announced as BA, American and Iberia celebrated the year anniversary of their transatlantic tie-up and outlined the next steps of their partnership.

British Airways is re-launching its award winning Executive Club for frequent fliers with a brand new ‘Bronze’ card tier.

The new Bronze tier will bridge the gap between Blue and Silver tiers. Blue card holders will need just half the Silver threshold level to be promoted to Bronze.

New Bronze card members will benefit from:

• Business class check-in
• Seat selection at seven days before departure
• Earning a 25 per cent tier bonus – that’s 1.25 Avios for every mile flown
• Dedicated telephone number (UK & US)
• Bronze tier luggage tags

Frank van der Post, British Airways’ managing director for brands and customer experience, said: “Customers are at the heart of everything we do. We attach huge importance to their loyalty.

“The re-launch of the British Airways Executive Club, which now has over seven million members worldwide, is part of a massive £5bn investment we are making across the whole airline on new aircraft, lounges, and technologies for our customers.

Customers can join British Airways’ Executive Club for free. They then earn Avios, the airline’s new currency for frequent fliers, according to how often they fly, how far and the type of ticket held.

Currently, members start as Blue card holders and can qualify for a Silver card after collecting 600 tier points, including four British Airways flights and move up to a Gold card after achieving 1,500 tier points, including four British Airways flights.

The new Bronze card will be awarded to members who achieve 300 tier points or 25 single flights – half the number needed to achieve Silver card status. Blue card members who have already collected 300 tier points or more, can expect to receive their new Bronze card from November 16.

British Airways is officially opening its new high-tech Gatwick home today (October 13) with millions of customers set to benefit from the improved facilities.

The new £73 million extension to Gatwick’s North Terminal will be opened by British Airways’ chief executive Keith Williams and Stewart Wingate who is Gatwick Airport’s chief executive.

The state-of-the-art building, which will be home to all British Airways flights at Gatwick, is designed to give customers more control of their journey, as well as providing an innovative travelling experience using the most advanced technology and a new approach to customer service.

Built on time and on budget by airport operator Gatwick Airport Limited, the British Airways terminal extension allows passengers to do more for themselves, from checking-in and choosing seats to printing their own bag tags.

Every aspect of the travel experience has been carefully considered to make the customer experience quick, smooth, simple and stress-free.

British Airways customer service staff will be on hand to greet customers and offer any help to use the self service kiosks and baggage podiums. For customers who need additional support there are dedicated care desks. There is also a designated customer service area for premium passengers.

Over four and a half million passengers fly on British Airways flights to and from Gatwick every year to 45 domestic, European and long haul destinations.

Silla Maizey, British Airways managing director Gatwick, said: “We have a fantastic new home, which is spacious, bright and airy and which has technology that gives passengers the quickest and easiest journey possible through the airport.

It’s a lovely little inspiring commercial – made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck at the end.

This commercial has way more class than the recent by competitor Virgin Atlantic. My only complaint about BA’s new commercial is the sadness I feel seeing the Concorde, which will never fly again.
