CNN's probably half of how I ended up in broadcast journalism. My mama sneakily left CNN on when most kids would be watching cartoons and I used to watch so much that I slept with it on just in case there was breaking news overnight.

Unfortunately, since the rise of non-breaking "breaking news" and particularly since the last election season, I can't stomach watching very much national TV news anymore unless it's mocked and satirized. Which is probably why I love panel shows, "Newswipe" and "The Bubble" so much, and why I'm so freaking excited about the C4 political comedy show coming next year.

I think he'll do great on CNN. Not sure if I'll actually watch it though. I generally avoid this type of TV (i.e. the American kind).

Aside from the misspelled words like colour, the refusal of pronouncing words properly, the inability to understand more defined and possible much more educated peoples accents, along with the annoying ignorance of how to say the last letter of the alphabet (ZED!), my greatest shock in moving over here (from South Africa) was that they don't have VINEGAR with their CHIPS!

The funny thing is that over here, everyone i talk to knows barely anything about their own country, never mind about the rest of the world. Few have even left their town and could care less about even local news. I got so tired of saying that South Africa isn't a giant safari, that I simply joined them, telling any fool who asked, that I had a pet lion, and we swam together in the river in my garden. I wonder why them am I the only one in maybe 300 Km who can speak four languages... excluding lion of course.

Arrogance, ignorance and constant exaggeration seems to pretty much sum up the daily dawdling they call life here.

Yet here I am, for my own reason, and also obvious reasons to get away from the hell that is South Africa. Until I find a place that is truly as green on the other side as it looks.

I'm unsure about this. One of the reasons I like Top Gear is because it is British. Jeremy, Richard, and James are just funny as hosts. These hosts I'm not sure about. They look like they are trying to copy the original so much, why don't they just show the original then? I guess I'll watch an episode or two then decide.

It takes three years after marriage to apply, right? Ah well, at least the wish is there, and I can't blame her at all. And she hasn't complained about the cold and the damp yet. I will be more impressed with her perceived Britishness when she starts breaking down her favorite kinds of biscuits and how she's making steak and kidney pies for Russell.

This might sound weird, but if the rest of it looks like that, I might become a fan. The "terrifying and exciting" bit sounded like classic Clarkson, though I miss the accents. (The hosts do pale in comparison to the UK lads, though that may be because they've known each other for so long. Give these guys a few years and they may become like their English counterparts. For now, they are kind of bland.)

I wonder if the Powers That Be behind USTG might be afraid that Americans don't/won't understand all the Britishness, and would be put off by the fact that it's so foreign (e.g., most of the cars they review have the steering wheel on the right-hand side, they talk about prices in pounds and reference people and situations we Yanks don't know, etc.). In that case, I think they are seriously underestimating the American public.

My attitude is still the same: I'll give it a few episodes, but we'll see. I want it to rock. I want it to be successful, if only to protect the Top Gear name. I'm pretty sure it could be possible to like both versions, but only if US Top Gear doesn't suck.

LOL, I just rolled my eyes so hard it hurt. She's going to apply for citizenship as soon as she gets married? For someone fascinated by everything British and embarking on a marriage, she clearly hasn't done a lick of research.

This is certainly not good news. SYFY (formerly Sci Fi) has been doing this type of thing for ages - to the chagrin of their viewers. Or Ex-viewers.... Here's hoping that this split malarky will bring us a bit more Who, rather than less. (Is the glass half full or half empty???) I hope he's not planning on doing this type of thing often.

This gentleman is an idiot. Prince Charles is neither insensitive nor racist. Maybe he needs to look inward a bit. If New Zealand wants to remove the monarchy, vote on it but don't be so small as to insinuate that that is the reason for their decision. My opinion of New Zealand just dropped through the floor.

How about going and experiencing the place in person, meet people, talk to locals, instead of having your head buried in a screen looking at stuff other people have experienced - if you want that stay home and watch a tv show about london. My advice, chuck away your iphone and enjoy yourself.

I'm New To This Site And I'm Confused To Wether it Is An American Or British Person Who Is Writing This Article. My First Guess Is That Its An American Cause You Guys Call It A Sidewalk But Then Again It Might Be A Brit As This Article Seems To Be For Americans They Could Just Be Making Sure They Understand. Either Way I Find This Article Very Inaccurate. People Like To Be Tipped I Wouldnt Know Cause I Dont Work In uch An Industry But I Suppose They Would Appreciatte The Extra-Cash. And As For The Shorts Thing If YOU Had Been Watching The News Then You Would Realise That A Couple Of Months Ago They Were Talking About Everywhere They Went People Either Had Their Shirts Off Or Were Wearing Shorts And Bikinis In Normal Parks Trying To Soak Up The Vitamin D In The Summer. And Those Comments Who Wanna Trade Us By Us Not Calling Them Yanks And They'll Stop Calling Us Brits. I personally Dont Call You Yanks And I Dont Know Anyone Who Calls You Guys Yanks And None Of Us Really Have A Problem With You Calling Us Brits, Its Just A Way Of Abbreviating The Term That Generalises us.

I think its a good idea. I like it when the series plays half a season then takes a break. They do it a lot here in the U.S. I'm torn though because I think in a lot of cases a major cliffhanger then a long break looses the audience on that story. (They do it with Criminal Minds and it kind of looses the plot.) But I hate how we have a nice summer of Doctor Who then absolutely nothing till Christmas so having Doctor Who playing while I'm in school again to keep some saneness would be awesome! And if Moffat asked for it then I think its a great shot. I'm all in!
