Doctor Whooligan On the Road: Dragon*con 2012 Day One & Two – Barrowman and McCoy #Dragoncon

Day one of Dragoncon was all about John Barrowman. The actor treated the exuberant audience to showing off his bum during his opening panel. Barrowman answered questions and laughed it up with his fans during his one hour panel with Kai Owen.

Owen appeared on stage with Barrowman and it was obvious the two actors have great chemistry together. Owen treated the crowed to an excerpt of The Tempest in Welsh along with several great stories about filming Torchwood.

The Doctor Who 2013 panel offered a chance for fans to discuss and postulate on what could be in store for Whovians in 2013. A discussion of what plans could be in motion for the 50th anniversary dominated the panel along with ideas for who should return for this special event.

Sylvester McCoy was on hand in the early afternoon for a Q&A session where he discussed not only Doctor Who but his prolific career as well. McCoy was in fine form as he was quick to fire off jokes while also telling many terrific stories about his time in The TARDIS.

There was a great turnout for the Terry Pratchett panel this afternoon.

But the big news at the con is that the anticipation was clearly building at the con as Saturday drew near. Fans were bursting at the seems to see Asylum of the Daleks and get on with the new season.

Day Two saw a full 007 panel, a great session on Doctor Who canon and a nifty look at Brit Crime shows. On Saturday the Brit Track was filled to capacity for most of the afternoon with larger sessions being held elsewhere at the con.

In the morning Kai Own hosted a screening of Meat and provided a hilarious audio commentary about the episode. Owen’s banter and interaction with fans was terrific and he genuinely seemed excited to be at the convention.

The evening brought panels on UK cops hows, comedies and the effect of Steampunk culture on Doctor Who.

Most of the cosplay is 11th Doctor related but there has been  some nice David Tennant era costumes walking around the can as well. The number of people in costumes has risen drastically from last year.

Day Thee bring more McCoy and a Torchwood Miracle panel as well.
