Guest Post: Holiday ideas if you are staying in the UK this summer

The two week annual summer holiday remains for most people the big event of the year, the anticipation, planning and eventual experience provides an opportunity for relaxation, pleasure and exploration. So, where to go and what to see: spectacular  rugged coastlines, beautiful sandy beaches, rugged mountain ranges and classical iconic cities? no need to travel abroad for any of these, all to be found in the UK this summer. Add to this the convenience of not having to queue whilst booking in for flights, no lost passports, no currency to exchange and no language translation and why would anyone chose to travel abroad?

With such a huge diversity of landscapes and activities you will not be short of holiday ideas. To help you along, here is a few extra you may not have thought of.

Try a culture tours, why not visit Liverpool ,the home of the Beatles, take a ride of the famous Mersey Ferry and visit the two iconic cathedrals or the two Premier football grounds. Do take into account that queues for the Beatle experience can be huge so make sure you book in advance. For classic British culture, the birthplace of the Merseybeat and the Beatles, there is no better place to visit then Merseyside.

How about slowing down for a couple of weeks and hiring  a narrow boat to explore the incredible network of canals throughout the county. Birmingham alone has more canals than Venice! From the beauty of the unspoilt countryside to the heart of classical English towns such as Stratford – upon – Avon, this will be an unforgettable and truly imaginative holiday.

If you fancy something a little racier, then why not hire a campervan or rent a car for your coastal drive around the unique and rugged Cornish or Devon coastline.  With spectacular coves, pretty villages and some of the best beaches in Europe, this is a journey of adventure and pleasure. Along the way take why not take in some of the best fish restaurants in the UK, particularly in Padstow, Truro and Falmouth .

Finally, how about the idea of simply taking in and exploring one of the provincial capitals of the UK. With such a huge variety of visitor attractions from top theatres to magnificent castles,  London, Edinburgh and Cardiff will please any family seeking an adventure this summer. The cost should not be off putting as there are many online discounts for UK hotels throughout all the big cities. Additionally many of the top attractions offer great discounts for families and often provide a “rover” ticket so you can visit several different locations. The Edinburgh pass for example will enable you to visit all the art galleries, museums and of course the Castle.

The summer holiday, the perfect opportunity to stay in the UK and make the most of our heritage, culture and magnificent scenery.
