Prince William to visit New Zealand
Clarence House has announced that Prince William is planning an official visit to New Zealand. The prince will represent the Queen at the opening of the new Supreme Court building.
William has carried out several engagements on his own, but the upcoming trip in January to Wellington and Auckland will mark the first time that William acts officially on behalf of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
C3 – Charles, Camilla, and Canada
Prince Charles and wife Camilla have begun their 11-day visit to Canada today.
In his speech at the welcoming ceremony, Charles said that he and his family love ‘dear Canada’: “I think this has something to do with our deep respect for the strength of the Canadian character. I say this because when the international call has been sounded over the years Canada has responded with speed, with magnanimity and with great courage.”
This afternoon the prince and duchess tour an archaeological dig at Cupids, a 400-year-old British settlement in Canada. The royal pair will then continue to the former home of Robert Abram Bartlett – “Captain Bob” – the Arctic explorer and mariner.
Kent memorabilia at Christie’s
Christie’s Auction House has announced that it is selling heirlooms from the collection of the late Prince George, Duke of Kent, and his late wife Princess Marina.
The 336 lots include silver wine coolers, linen towels from the Sandringham estate and King George V’s picnic set, complete with silver thermos flask. Personal items include a painting by Queen Victoria of her daughter, Princess Louise, and a chair used at the coronation of King George VI.
All items are being put on the block by the Kents’ 3 children: Prince Edward, the current Duke, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Michael.
Royal wrestler shines at match
Footman David Hintz has won the British Wrestling Champion belt after a match in Essex.
Mr. Hintz told The Sun that Buckingham Palace – where he has been employed for three years – has always been supportive of his other career.
In his capacity as a footman, Mr. Hintz rides alongside ready to protect the Queen during ceremonial occasions which require her to travel in a carriage.
Her Majesty is known to be keen on wrestling and is reported to have watched Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks on ITV’s World Of Sport in the 1980s.
