Royal Round Up 12-08-09: Royals Need Breathing Room, The Young Victoria Premieres Stateside

Give us room, says the Queen

[picappgallerysingle id="7199361"]Queen Elizabeth II has put the newspapers on notice: do NOT run paparazzi photos of the family.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Her Majesty’s solicitor wrote to newspaper editors about six weeks ago telling them not to publish intrusive photos of the family at home. Photographers are traditionally on hand to try and capture the royal family relaxing at their Sandringham estate during the Christmas holidays.

This warning comes hot on the heels of a series of photos published of the senior royals going about their private lives. Though the photos were published outside of Britain, Buckingham Palace has made it clear it will not tolerate further breaches of privacy.

Even Prince Charles’ camp has spoken out. The Prince of Wales’ spokeman, Paddy Harverson, told The Sunday Telegraph that members of the royal family feel they have a right to privacy when they are going about everyday, private activities.

“They recognize there is a public interest in them and what they do, but they do not think this extends to photographing the private activities of them and their friends,” said Harverson.
