Royal Bonus: Brits Get an Extra National Holiday to Celebrate Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

In the year 2012, Britain will be celebrating a wonderful achievement – the Queen will have been on the throne for 60 years – and it’s called the Diamond Jubiblee.

Well, to help Brtions celebrate the momentous occasion properly, they will be given an extra Bank Holiday – free day off – for the occasion.

In Britain – Bank holidays are comparable to Labor Day or President’s Day – national holidays that are generally a good excuse for a day off.

They usually get 8 bank holidays a year – and in 2012 they’ll get an extra one. The special Jubilee Holiday will also be combined with the late spring Bank Holiday (usually held in May) to create a 4 day holiday weekend.

It’s still unclear as to what festivities we can expect to mark the 2012 Diamond Jubiliee, but we will let you know as soon as details are available.
