How to Search Thousands of Self Catering Cottages in Britain Quickly and Easily

Frequent readers may have noticed a new tool in the righthand sidebar. We’ve partnered with Home Away Holiday Rentals to provide a widget that lets you search thousands of self-catering cottage rentals all over Britain.

We highly recommend giving cottage rentals a go. The most memorable part of our recent trip was staying in lovely Updown Cottage in Shaftesbury, Dorset.

With the widget you can also search for holiday flats to rent in London and elsewhere in the UK. Renting an apartment for your London trip is often a cheaper and more luxurious option than staying in a hotel, which in London are frankly usually disappointing.

So, give the widget a go here or you can try it out in the sidebar at any time.

Let us know if you book anything – we’d love to hear about your adventure!

I went back to London last May and stayed at an excellent self-catering flat, the “146 Suites” in Marylebone. It was an absolute steal at 65 GBP a night, super clean and very modern. There are so many benefits to self catering that it’s hard for me to see any benefit in staying in a hotel anymore. The flat had a kitchenette complete with a toaster, kettle, pots and pans, microwave, stove, silverware and plates. There is also a Tesco Express just down the street so I was able to stock up on supplies (Lucozade for post-pubbing mornings, fresh bread, jam, salame and cheese for lunches) and eat two of my meals at home.

The 146 Suites are also a block away from the Baker Street tube station, the Sherlock Holmes Museum, and the lovely Regents Park. There’s also quite a few nice pubs in the area, and a unbelieveable kebab place (that I can’t remember the name of course)

All in all, it was such a great experience. I could come and go as I pleased, “live” in a residential area, cook some local fare, head out to local haunts, and make it back in time to settle down and catch a BBC documentary before bed.
