It’s time for pre-orders to begin for the 2020 Anglotopia Calendar. This is now our fifth year of producing a special calendar for Anglotopia readers. We’re also going to be changing things a bit this year.
The 2019 Calendars were a disaster for us. Because Facebook took away our reach over the last couple of years, we simply couldn’t get the word out about the calendar to enough people, so as a result, the calendars sold terribly. As this is an annual fundraiser for Anglotopia operations, this was a problem. In previous years we’d sold hundreds of calendars. Last year we barely sold 100. Things have changed, though, since last year and we’ve worked to rebuild our audience outside of Facebook.
This was one of the issues that led to our problems last year. We simply did not sell enough calendars to cover the costs of having them printed. But we still did anyway, which was why they were so late last year. Another problem was that we offered four different calendars, which was, frankly, too many. We considered not offering a calendar at all this year, but I know that will disappoint too many people who look forward to buying it.
So, this year, we’re going back to basics. We’re offering one calendar. Just the Anglotopia 2020 Calendar. We’re also changing the form factor. The previous Calendars were 8.5 inches by 11 inches. We’re increasing the size. It will now be 12×12 inches, a much larger size to show off the pictures we have to share. Each calendar is printed with high-quality printing on thick paper and features both UK and US holidays in an attractive format using ‘British’ stylings. The quality will be so good that you could have the pictures framed after the year is over; if you wanted to.
We have tried to introduce variety to the locations in the calendar. We’re limited to twelve images, so it’s difficult to make it work. But we have twelve beautiful pictures from all over England and Scotland. All the pictures were taken by us in 2018.
It’s very important for us that this calendar is a success this year. We need to sell 100 immediately to cover the printing & shipping costs. Anything we sell beyond that will go directly into Anglotopia’s operations fund (which pays for things like hosting this website, paying writers, email newsletter management, etc.). It does not directly go into our pockets, nor will it be funding any travel this year. The calendar needs to support Anglotopia, and that’s what it will do.
Please consider buying one. They cost $19.99 plus shipping, and they’re going to be beautiful. They will ship in late October/early November, earlier if we sell 100 copies fairly quickly. They will definitely ship with plenty of time for Christmas.
Thank you for your support!
